Abstract: An iridium/iridium oxide electrode for quantitatively detecting pH in a sulfide ion environment, and a preparation method and use thereof are provided. In the present disclosure, a sensitive layer of the iridium/iridium oxide electrode is coated with a sulfonated polyether ether ketone/ionic liquid (SPEEK/IL) sandwich structure. The SPEEK/IL sandwich structure includes two layers of SPEEK/SiOx/IL composite film and one layer of SPEEK film. The SPEEK film is arranged on an outermost layer. The SPEEK/IL sandwich structure covered on a surface of the electrode has an isolation effect on ions other than hydrogen ions, and especially shows a desirable isolation effect on sulfide ions with a smaller ion size. In this way, the electrode is not easily disturbed by redox substances in a complex aqueous environment.

Abstract: Biomineralization—the synthesis of inorganic materials using proteins—has recently gained interest as a low cost, green route for the production of metal chalcogenide semiconductor nanocrystals. Typical biomineralization approaches rely on proteins or biomolecules identified from organisms which possess a native biomineralization response. Disclosed herein is an alternative biomineralization approach for synthesizing metal chalcogenide nanocrystals which uses an artificially designed de novo protein. De novo proteins are non-natural proteins, allowing for facile modification of the protein through the tuning of amino acids within the sequence. This de novo protein was employed to produce size-controlled populations of semiconductor nanocrystals, with properties consistent with those produced using traditional routes.

Abstract: A material-based subdomain hybrid cellular automata algorithm for solving material optimization of thin-walled frame structures includes an outer loop and an inner loop. The outer loop is to define and update the target cost for the inner loop, and the inner loop is to adjust material using a PID control strategy according to the nominal flow stress of a current cell and the nominal flow stress of candidate materials, so that a current cost of the inner loop converges to the target cost. The material-based subdomain hybrid cellular automata algorithm can effectively solve a nonlinear dynamic response optimization problem in the discrete design space.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a new class of trans-cyclooctenes (TCOs), “a-TCOs,” that are prepared in high yield via stereocontrolled 1,2-additions of nucleophiles to trans-cyclooct-4-enone, which itself was prepared on large scale in two steps from 1,5-cyclooctadiene. Computational transition state models rationalize the diastereoselectivity of 1,2-additions to deliver a-TCO products, which were also shown to be more reactive than standard TCOs and less hydrophobic than even a trans-oxocene analog. Illustrating the favorable physicochemical properties of a-TCOs, a fluorescent TAMRA derivative in live HeLa cells was shown to be cell-permeable through intracellular Diels-Alder chemistry and to washout more rapidly than other TCOs.
