Abstract: Synthesis of novel and unique PAMAM (poly-amidoamine) polymers. PAMAM polymers can be grown by systematic alternation between ethylenediamine (EDA) and methacrylate. By taking advantage of the alternating terminal ends, successive generations G1 and G0.5 were combined under acidic conditions with Pluronic P123 as a liquid-crystal template. The resulting polymer was imaged with TEM and the product was circular and amorphous of no characteristic size ranging between about 5 nm to about 600 nm, with remarkable electrochemical activity unseen in any of the generations of PAMAM. Applications of this electroactive poly-amidoamine organic polymer include use as a new electron transfer reagent for amperometric biosensors.

Abstract: A wave energy thermal storage type seawater thermoelectric power generation device which comprises a buoy-type energy capture system, a platform system and a mooring system. A whole friction liquid heating, thermal storage and power generation device is arranged inside a platform, which improves the adaptability of the whole system to the external environment. A flywheel and liquid friction heating method is adopted to generate heat more efficiently. Inner ratchets and pawls are used to control the movement of a flywheel so that the flywheel always rotates in one direction, and when the rotating speed of the flywheel exceeds that of the inner ratchets, the external wave energy cannot be transferred to the flywheel through the movement of the inner ratchets so as to limit the upper limit of the rotating speed of the flywheel and protect the safety of the flywheel system.

Abstract: To predict a failure condition in a power module of a vehicle, it is determined whether a discontinuity in statistical data characterizing physical measurements of the power module meets a threshold criterion. Responsive to the discontinuity meeting the threshold criterion, a data offset in the physical measurements is computed at the discontinuity. A shift correction is applied to the physical measurements in accordance with the computed data offset responsive to a determination that the discontinuity is attributable to a restart of the power module. Other statistical data characterizing the shift-corrected physical measurements are computed and the statistical data and the other statistical data are provided to a machine learning processor that predicts the failure condition in the power module.

Abstract: Improved temperature measurement and correction is provided for magnetoresistive sensor arrays. A linear coefficient of resistance vs. temperature is determined from one or more reference sensors in the array by measuring resistance of the reference sensors at known temperatures, which enables resistance measurements to be used to determine unknown temperatures in all sensors of the array. Double modulation leads to MR sensor outputs having center tones which can be used to correct temperature dependence in side tone MR signals. This correction can be according to a linear fit or a polynomial fit. Applications include biological assays requiring accurate temperature data, such as accurate determination of DNA melting curves.

Abstract: A data-driven PMU bad data detection algorithm based on spectral clustering using single PMU data is described. The described algorithm does not require the system topology and parameters. First, a data identification method based on a decision tree is described to distinguish event data and bad data by using the slope feature of each set of data. Then, a bad data detection method based on spectral clustering is described. By analyzing the weighted relationships among all the data, this method can detect the bad data that has a small deviation.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to three dimensional (3D) woven lattices for drag and turbulence reduction. 3D woven lattice material can serve as a surface layer that regularizes the flow around a bluff body with beneficial effects on: 1) drag reduction, 2) decrease in turbulence intensity, 3) attenuation of flow-induced vibrations, and 4) aerodynamic noise cancellation. 3-D woven lattice architectures allows for passive flow control (without the need for external energy supply) around bluff bodies with restricted geometry/shape due to their functional requirements such as wind turbine towers, cargo trucks, train cars, etc. The woven material can be easily shaped to fit on various geometries and incorporated in existing manufacturing processes (from composites to metallic plates). Metallic foam and randomly porous materials have been identified in the literature as a promising solution for passive flow control over bluff bodies.
