Abstract: Provided herein are methods and compositions for the treatment of cancer by modulating the microbiome to enhance the efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade. The microbiome may be modulated by the administration of butyrate and/or butyrate-producing bacteria. Also provided herein are methods of determining a response to an immune checkpoint inhibitor by identifying if a subject has a favorable microbial profile.

Abstract: A coating composition may include a polymeric binder and bacteria that exhibit biologically induced mineralization (BIM) or biologically controlled mineralization (BCM) of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the presence of environmental calcium. The bacteria may exhibit BIM or BCM of CaCO3 using the ChaA antiporter protein. The coating formulations may be used to form coatings that exhibit self-healing properties in response to damage, such as a cut, tear, puncture, abrasion, or the like. For example, in response to being exposed to the damage, the bacteria may utilize nutrients, a calcium source, and water to cause precipitation of CaCO3 at the site of the damage. The nutrients, the calcium source, and the water may be provided as part of the coating formulation, as part of another layer of a coating system, from an external source (e.g., an applied spray or wash), or combinations thereof.

Abstract: A system and method estimate the fault severity index and consequently the number of shorted turns in permanent magnet motors (PMSM) with inter turn short circuit fault (ITSC). In this method, the machine is excited with DC current at stand still conditions to obtain the winding resistance seen by the d-axis of the machine. The estimated d-axis resistance contains useful information pertaining to the fault severity index, and is used to extract the fault severity index and the number of shorted turns in the faulty motor. The method enables the estimation of fault severity index without complex modeling with different machine prototypes, or FEA models to analyze the relationship between machine currents and short circuit current. To enhance the accuracy of the estimation method, this disclosure addresses issues associated with inverter non-linearity effects such as distortion voltage due to dead time effects and voltage drops across the switching devices.

Abstract: An environmentally friendly (e.g. no acid, base, or cyanide) system and process for large scale extraction of metal ion into aerobic molten salt (or ionic liquid) and the electrodeposition of metal (e.g. copper, gold, silver, etc.) from the metal ion dissolved in the molten salt. Another embodiment comprises a one-pot apparatus for the extraction of metal (e.g. copper) from metal earths and electrodepositing the metal using a low melting (209° C.) aerated Na—K—Zn chloride salt in which copper metal oxidizes and is converted to soluble copper chloride. When an electrical power supply is connected to the graphite vessel (cathode) and to copper rods in the melt (anodes), then the copper chloride is deposited as copper metal by electroreduction on the bottom of the graphite reaction vessel.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, system and computer program product for compressing video. A set of video frames is partitioned into two subsets of different types of frames, a first type and a second type. The first type of frames of videos is compressed to generate a first representation by a first stage encoder. The first representation is then decoded to reconstruct the first type of frames using a first stage decoder. The second type of frames of video is compressed to generate a second representation that only contains soft edge information by a second stage encoder. A generative model corresponding to a second stage decoder is then trained using the first representation and the reconstructed first type of frames by using a discriminator employed by a machine learning system. After training the generative model, it generates reconstructed first and second types of frames using the soft edge information.
