  • Publication number: 20140089777
Abstract: A data processing system and method delivers an open profile personalization system based on profile data structures that contain one or more interest nodes or channels. The channels can be created or subscribed to by the user, provided by social media friends of the user, and/or suggested by editors of the system. The interest nodes include respective sets of targets and qualifiers, where the targets and qualifiers comprise types of attributes to be used in the filtering of information files for delivery as a result set for the interest nodes. Targets and qualifiers are applied to the types of attributes and available information files to produce a filtered set. Web pages showing personalized results include tools based on content analysis to assist the user in creation and editing of the open profile.

  • Publication number: 20030177850
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for verifying roll roundness of a cylindrical object and more particularly for verifying the roundness of rolls of papers used for newspaper printing. According to the present invention, a roll rotator is configured with a plurality of ultrasonic sensors, which are activated when a roll of paper is lifted and rotated by the roll rotator. The roll of paper is rotated an entire revolution and a plurality of distance measurements are taken at each sensor. As the readings are taken, a filter algorithm may be applied to remove values that are too far out of range, such as values which are representative of a torn wrapper or other defects in the covering surface of the roll. Once the readings have been taken, an average of the readings is calculated and the roundness algorithm compares each reading with the average for each of the sensors.

  • Patent number: 6398094
Abstract: A snake apparatus for threading a web through a printing press includes a body portion and a ridge integrally formed on a surface of the body portion. The ridge is configured to engage and guide the snake along a track through the printing press. Intermittent gaps are located in the ridge to allow the snake to flex. The snake is attached to an end of a web roll, and inserted into the track to guide the web through the press in the path desired.
