Abstract: A beneficial method for the manufacture of amino polyalkylene phosphonic acids, under substantial absence of hydrohalogenic acid, is disclosed. The method, in essence, is based on reacting narrowly defined ratios of phosphorous acid, an amine, a formaldehyde in presence of specific ranges of an acid catalyst having a pKa equal or inferior to 3.1. The inventive method is capable of yielding economically and quality operational/capacity advantages, in particular significantly reduced one-step cycle duration under exclusion, of corrosion disadvantages and also is environmentally friendly without requiring, in that respect, anything more than nominal capital expenditures.

Abstract: A method for increasing the cobalt uptake in forage is disclosed by spreading a micronutrient fertilizer in a level corresponding to of from 10 to 200 g cobalt/ha. The fertilizer is prepared, in sequence, by preparing a phosphono-cobalt chelate in a liquid form, followed by granulating that liquid with a solid carrier other than a water-soluble phosphate and thereafter admixing the micronutrient granulate formed with a fertilizer and/or a soil conditioner.
Abstract: Novel reactive phosphonate compounds are disclosed corresponding to the structural formula set forth. The reactive moiety is preferably selected from the group of Cl, I, Br, HSO4, NO3, mixtures of Cl and I, CH3SO3 and p-toluene sulfonic acid whereas the hydrocarbon linking group between the nitrogen and the reactive moiety is most preferably a linear hydrocarbon chain having fro 3 to 12 carbon atoms. The novel phosphonates herein can be used in multiple established applications, such as detergency, water treatment, oil recovery, pharmaceutical intermediate and pharmaceutical products. The novel compounds are particularly useful for the “tailor” synthesis of optimized structural arrangements capable of meeting beneficial performance requirements.

Abstract: Compositions and method for improving properties of pulp produced or reducing the digester cycle time in alkaline chemical pulping processes in which an effective amount of at least one selected phosphonate or carboxylate compound or mixtures thereof is admixed with the alkaline aqueous mixture in the digester of the chemical pulping process. The compositions and method are especially well suited for use in the Kraft pulping process.
