Abstract: In an engine control system for an aircraft diesel engine for a propeller aircraft for controlling the injection valves, charge pressure valves, common rail pressure valves and propeller control valves actuated by non-redundant actuators, comprising a plurality of sensors and a regulating device connected thereto and to the actuators, two engine control units—first and second—which are each connected to a first and a second power supply and are each connected to the sensors, are provided and are interconnected by way of a serial bus and can be connected selectively to the actuators by way of relays that are supplied with power together with the first engine control unit. The two engine control units each have a diagnostic function for calculating the respective health levels (A and B), which are determined by the defects detected, can be exchanged by way of the serial bus and are compared to one another.

  • Publication number: 20110220065
Abstract: A common rail high pressure pump for diesel engines operated using aircraft fuel, has an eccentric ring (2) that is disposed in a pump housing (13), shaped in the form of a polygon and driven by an eccentric shaft (1). The pump has pump pistons (8) that can move over the riding surfaces (4) of the eccentric ring and over the contact surface (5) of a tappet plate (3) in the pump cylinders (7) and that is in operative connection with a seating surface (10) of the tappet plate. A thin diamond-like carbon layer (12) is applied onto the previously ground contact surfaces (5) and riding surfaces (4), whereas the uncoated seating surface (10) is designed as a concave bulge. The eccentric ring (2) and the tappet plate (3) have a pre-determined high degree of hardness.

  • Publication number: 20110223049
Abstract: A fuel pump is disclosed, especially a prefeed pump for feeding aircraft fuel to the high pressure pump, wherein the form-fit connection between the drive shaft (4) and the driven impeller (2) is produced by a regular, convex, triangular polygonal contour having rounded-off lateral faces and corner faces, the drive shaft and the impeller being provided with the polygonal contour. In this manner, the wear resulting from the poor lubricating power of the kerosene-based aircraft fuel can be reduced and the service life of the fuel pump can be increased.

  • Publication number: 20110186007
Abstract: Diesel engines are proposed as the drive unit for aircrafts that operate reliably and trouble-free even at great altitudes, wherein the combustion in the diesel engines at top dead center is moved up to an earlier point in time according to the flight altitude and the corresponding barometric pressure. In addition, the charge pressure may be set to a constant value, which is not dependent on the flight altitude, and furthermore, the quantity of fuel supplied may be adjusted to a minimum fuel quantity adjusted to the respective charge pressure.
