  • Patent number: 5085474
Abstract: A door latch opener having a reversible mounting plate, a handle reversibly mounted on the mounting plate, an actuator reversibly mounted on the mounting plate and a spring reversibly mounted between the mounting plate and the handle permitting reconfiguration of the door latch opener allowing its operation in a wide variety of orientations. The door latch opener can be used with the handle in an upward or downward position and by pulling or pushing on the handle. Two such door openers can be used on a door in a cooperating non-interfering arrangement in various combinations of configurations.

  • Patent number: 5057979
Abstract: A recessed lighting fixture is molded in one piece, preferably of plastic, and includes a frame for holding a lamp housing as well as a junction box having a hinged lid. The frame and junction box define a planar vertical surface which is abutted against a joist and affixed thereto by nails extending through spaced nailways. Hangerways are also provided in the lighting fixture through which hanger bars are inserted for supporting the lighting fixture between two joists as an alternate way of supporting the fixture.

  • Patent number: 5050268
Abstract: An improved door closer is provided which has a back checking arrangement including a loosely held resilient cushion bar which is engaged by a metallic shield abutting sliding cam plates during a final few degrees of opening of a door to provide an increasing resistance against further opening of the door. The shield preferably engages the cushion bar approximately 4.degree. prior to a normal full open position of the door. Selective thickness of the cushion bar provides either a 90.degree. full open position of the door or a 150.degree. full open position of the door without additional adjustment.

  • Patent number: 5031945
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for mounting a panic exit device to a midrail of a door provides for a foolproof and quick attachment of the device to the door. The invention includes only two formed tabs insertable into matching recesses in the active stile of the door, and a clamping bar with two set screws holding a remote end of the device to the midrail of the door. The arrangement requires a minimum of machining, eliminating the need to match screw holes between the midrail of the door and the panic exit device, and reduces required precision in mounting such a device to a door midrail.

  • Patent number: 5024070
Abstract: A mounting pad for a lock cylinder provides a plurality of bosses which protrude interior of a door stile, the bosses having inclined threaded bores which hold set screws, the set screws are accessed laterally through an access opening on the side wall of the stile, the set screws are progressed outwardly of the bosses to press against an inside wall of the stile, thus clamping the mounting pad to the door stile. The mounting pad holds a lock cylinder inside an annular lock collar by use of a lock ring. The lock cylinder communicates to mechanical means residing interior of the door stile to effectuate latching of the door with a key. The access opening for insertion of a tool such as an Allan wrench to progress the set screws is located on an interior side wall of the door stile such that when the door is completely assembled, the access opening is covered either by an interior door panel, or other door structures such as a panic exit device or panic bar.

  • Patent number: 5016927
Abstract: A dogging device for a door panic exit device which provides a tongue portion which releasably engages a ledge portion of an inwardly projecting push bar to lock the push bar in an inward position with respect to the door. The tongue portion is mounted for axial movement and limited rotational movement with respect to a housing of the panic exit device. In an undogged condition the ledge portion moves inward with the push bar and abuts and deflects the tongue portion harmlessly inwardly without any engagement. By axially translating the tongue portion into the housing the tongue portion clears the ledge portion and springs into a position outwardly of a trailing side of the ledge portion whereupon release of the actuating button translates, by a spring bias, the tongue portion back axially toward its original position, which results in the tongue portion being positioned abutting the trailing side of the ledge.

  • Patent number: 5006047
Abstract: The invention relates to a compressor having a piston and rod assembly which is segmented to allow adjustment of the compressor's output. In particular, fasteners accessible from the top surface of the piston can be removed so that shims can be added or removed from piston rod. The addition or removal of shims lengthens or shortens the piston rod so that the compression ration can be fine tuned. These adjustments, as well as replacement of the piston seal, can be accomplished without extensive disassembly of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 4998764
Abstract: A combination handle/bracket member is provided for use with a device, such as a suction pump, that is operated in conjunction with a separate component, such as a collection jar. The member is preferably a single-piece member with a 90.degree. bend separating a manual grasping area from a component receiving area. Also preferably the member is secured to the device with fasteners that are already used to secure portions of the device together so that no additional fasteners are required.

  • Patent number: 4931917
Abstract: An adjustable fixture for holding a lamp of the type having a rim which includes a frame rotatably carried on a support arm by an attachment device that permits selected rotation of the frame relative to the support without adjustment of the attachment device. Further, the frame includes engagement springs to securely hold the lamp at a distance from the frame. A stop device is provided to provide a limit to the rotational movement between the frame and the support.

  • Patent number: 4905846
Abstract: An apparatus for suspending articles from a surface is disclosed having a head portion and one arm member extending outwardly from one side of the head portion, arranged at an angle with respect to the head portion and haivng at least two spaced apart detents near a free distal end. An article to be suspended is hung from the arm member. The detents are in the form of bends in the arm and serve to restrict the article's movement in a longitudinal direction with respect to the arm member. The articles are held at the more proximal second detent, thereby leaving the more distal first detent open to allow for easy replacement of an article.
