Patents Assigned to Thomassen & Drijver-Verblifa NV
  • Patent number: 4821638
Abstract: An apparatus for successive printing of cylindrical objects includes a driven carrying wheel; a number of spindles on the wheel freely rotatable about their longitudinal axes parallel to the axis of rotation of the carrying wheel; a printing station radially adjacent the path of the spindles for successively printing the objects; and structure for detecting possible absence of an object and connected to control and deflection structure for temporary deflection of the spindle path out of printing contact. Each spindle is carried by a carriage which can move radially of the carrying wheel and which is guided by a first guide member and a second guide member which cooperates with a guide groove for determining the path of the spindle carried by the carriage. Each spindle is carried such that the pressure force applied thereto during printing of an object can substantially be absorbed without moment by both guide members.

  • Patent number: 4776149
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for packaging a row of covers placed coaxially of one another in a sheet of packaging material, comprising successively in the packaging direction: a feed station for the row of covers; a wrapping station for wrapping said row of covers in said sheet; a folding station for folding end wall and longitudinal fold edges of the sheet wrapped around the row of covers; and adhesive station for adhering fold edges to the packaging; and transport means for transporting the row of covers, which is characterized in that the folding station comprises gripping means gripping onto the wrapped packaging material from outside, which means hold the packaging material away from the row of covers during forming of the longitudinal fold.

  • Patent number: 4742949
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a body for a container, in which a body having a weldseam along its longitudinal direction is formed by bending material in sheet form and welding the overlapping edges of the bended material together, and the wall of the body having the longitudinal weldseam is thinned.Preferably thinning is obtained by wall-ironing. It is advantageous that the wall thickness of a wall part close to wall end of the body is larger than that of a remaining part of the body and eventually prior to thinning has been reduced and that prior to being reduced the body is provided with a gripping rim and/or cover.

  • Patent number: 4693658
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method of manufacturing a body formed of a shaped sheet metal blank having an opening tear strip terminating in a tongue. Overlapping edges of the blank are welded together and at the tear strip melting of a tin coating of the blank occurs so that at the tear strip the edges of the blank are linked by melted tin, or welding is completely interrupted to form a slot at the tear strip between the overlapping edges of the blank and the slot using a sealing material. Further, the disclosure relates to a metal blank for a can body having a tear strip formed there across by two weakening scores extending transversely to the edges of the blank and terminating in a tongue. The tear strip at one of the edges of the blank is provided with a covering and/or oxide layer which has a relatively low electrical conductivity.

  • Patent number: 4601384
Abstract: This disclosure relates to an apparatus for feeding can bodies serially. The apparatus includes a delivery path wherein can bodies arranged in a row are presented one at a time to a feed apparatus wherein a rotating cam member receives the leading can body or similar cylindrical object and moves the same from the feed path to a delivery path. Several different types of feed mechanisms are illustrated, and most particularly there is provided an arcuate guide path which is concentric to a shaft carrying the cam member with the cam member being particularly configurated for cooperation with the arcuate path. The cam member will preferably have a partially spiral-shaped part. In a preferred embodiment, the delivery path stops immediately adjacent the cam member and there is a stop member against which the can is held by a cylindrical surface of the cam member. The can is moved endwise away from the stop out of the delivery path.

  • Patent number: 4373368
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a cylindrical wall-ironed sleeve having a bottom and a radially inwardly enlarged wall thickness at an end remote from said bottom with there being an internally tapered transition region between a normal wall thickness and the enlarged wall thickness, said method including the forming of the sleeve on a mandrel with said enlarged wall thickness being interlocked with said mandrel; the step of introducing a fluid under pressure through the mandrel between the mandrel and the sleeve at the transition region of the sleeve to momentarily radially enlarge the end of the sleeve remote from the bottom and release the inter-lock between the sleeve and the mandrel.
