Abstract: This disclosure relates to an apparatus for feeding can bodies serially. The apparatus includes a delivery path wherein can bodies arranged in a row are presented one at a time to a feed apparatus wherein a rotating cam member receives the leading can body or similar cylindrical object and moves the same from the feed path to a delivery path. Several different types of feed mechanisms are illustrated, and most particularly there is provided an arcuate guide path which is concentric to a shaft carrying the cam member with the cam member being particularly configurated for cooperation with the arcuate path. The cam member will preferably have a partially spiral-shaped part. In a preferred embodiment, the delivery path stops immediately adjacent the cam member and there is a stop member against which the can is held by a cylindrical surface of the cam member. The can is moved endwise away from the stop out of the delivery path.
Abstract: The high density packaging of generally conical articles is effected by mechanism which feeds two rows of the suspended articles onto a conveyor so that the articles lie on their sides in a single horizontal row arrangement aligned in spaced relation along the path of travel imparted by the conveyor. This arrangement is such that the articles lie in head-to-toe relation. At a downstream region, the progress of the articles is arrested so that they sequentially crowd into touching relation define a contiguous sequence. Transfer mechanism transfer a group of articles from the sequence as a layer and deposits the layer in a receptacle. The transfer mechanism then transfers a second group in the receptacle as a layer nested with the first layer. To achieve high density, the second group of articles has an orientation relative to the sequence which is different from that of the first group.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of checking the coating of a metal surface, in which the surface to be checked is exposed to electro-magnetic radiation and the amount of reflected radiation is measured and compared with the amount incident to the surface exposed. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out such method.

Abstract: An apparatus for cutting through transversely or trimming pipes, pieces of tubing or cans by means of two cooperating shearing members having each a cutting edge which extends in a circular or otherwise closed line. These shearing members are mounted for relative radial wobbling shearing movement. There are provided in the apparatus also means for keeping the cooperating cutting edges at a safe axial distance from one another to avoid, during operation, damage to them, said means at the same time allowing the shearing members to relatively move in all radial directions to achieve the wobbling shearing operation.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method whereby a preformed metal lid which is intended for a tin, e.g. a paint tin, and of which at least one peripheral portion is axially deepened, is formed with a radially outwardly inverted peripheral edge with respect to the lid axis. The object of this invention is to provide a method in which the outwardly inverted peripheral edge can be formed with very close dimensional tolerances. To this end the invention provides a method of the type referred to hereinbefore, which is characterized in that the lid is held in tightly fitting relationship in all directions in a multipart die at least by its deepened peripheral portion, except in the zone where the inverted peripheral edge is to be formed and at least at the inside of the base of said peripheral portion, and said base is pressed by art of the die acting as a punch against the part of the die situated opposite the inside of the base.
Abstract: To prevent fold formation when arranging a circumferential flange and a circular constriction adjoining the same, the material of the sleeve body is locally arrested under a sufficient clamping force between the inner and outer segments of a deformation device.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a cylindrical wall-ironed sleeve having a bottom and a radially inwardly enlarged wall thickness at an end remote from said bottom with there being an internally tapered transition region between a normal wall thickness and the enlarged wall thickness, said method including the forming of the sleeve on a mandrel with said enlarged wall thickness being interlocked with said mandrel; the step of introducing a fluid under pressure through the mandrel between the mandrel and the sleeve at the transition region of the sleeve to momentarily radially enlarge the end of the sleeve remote from the bottom and release the inter-lock between the sleeve and the mandrel.
Abstract: Apparatus for removing liquid from or evenly distributing liquid over magnetically attractible articles by using centrifugal forces. The articles are fed to a non-magnetic rotating drum, a helical series of magnets being arranged inside the drum adjacent the inner surface thereof.
