  • Patent number: 5088381
Abstract: In a projectile-launcher actuated by induction, the guidance tubes are made of austenitic, stainless steel with high resistivity, transparent to the induction phenomenon. This makes it possible to obtain optimal mechanical strength while at the same time deriving the benefit of the advantages of actuation by induction between an inducation coil wound on each tube and an armature winding wound on the projectile. The disclosed device can be applied to all types of ground or airborne rocket-launchers.

  • Patent number: 5082203
Abstract: According to the invention, the system should reliably provide for the complete and irreversible unfolding of the fins of the tail unit, after the departure of the projectile, and should enable the triggering, after the locking of the fins, of an ignition device for the propulsion unit contained in the projectile. A system for opening an unfolding tail unit for projectiles provided with a propulsion unit, formed by a plurality of fins hinged on shafts and distributed around the projectile, comprises a part capable of sliding imperviously from a first position to a second position in a first bore, so as to drive means for pivoting the fins. With the first bore, this part defines a first chamber and can be shifted by gas pressure in this chamber, generated by a gas generator, the fins being completely unfolded during the shifting of the part towards the second position.

  • Patent number: 5078053
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for securing sub-munitions on board a carrier. The system uses straps. Each strap is fixed by one end to a container wall by a tensioning means, and its other end is engaged in a cylindrical lock element mounted on another wall. The cylindrical lock element is connected to a resistant torque generator device which is itself connected to a torque limiting device which gets triggered at a determined threshold value, so as to release the cylindrical lock element in rotation in order to release the end of the strap. In these systems, the straps are released less suddenly than in the known systems, and they are released with perfect simultaneity. A development enables the sub-munitions to be ejected with controlled angles of incidence in relation to the trajectory of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5054400
Abstract: A projectile with rear and front sections able to deliver payloads of submunitions contained inside the projectile after separation of the rear from the front section. The rear section is fitted with an assembly of thin blades. When both sections are assembled, the blades are partially in the rear section and partially in the front section, and when the two sections are separated, the blades spread out. The assembly is such that the length of blade that spreads out is greater than the length of blade that was in the front section before separation of the two section.

  • Patent number: 5044156
Abstract: The invention concerns a device designed to modify the trajectory of a projectile by pyrotechnical thrusters, formed by several solid propellant thrusters arranged transversally on a cylindrical support. The combustion chambers, instead of having a cylindrical shape, are parallelepiped shaped. They contain propellant loads which are gone through by a rod connecting a streamlined to the support. The streamlined and the support are cut up to realize nozzles which allow the ejection of gas, the gas coming from the combustion of the propellant load. Thus for a given thickness (e) of the support, a greater loading volume is obtained than that which would be obtained with standard, cylinder-shaped thrusters.

  • Patent number: 5016836
Abstract: Disclosed is a gas jet device within at least one movable nozzle in rotation, enabling the creation of one or more thrust forces providing for the guidance-control of a carrier. The guidance-control device has a nozzle unit to which a nozzle is fixed. The nozzle, through the movable nozzle unit, is put into rotation by a rotation-driving device which may be, for example, a rotation-driving device. This pneumatic control device has a control piston provided with a rack device and cylindrical chambers. Through a gas distribution system, these cylindrical chambers undergo pressure variations which give the piston a translational motion. This piston transmits a rotational motion, through a toothed wheel, to the nozzle unit and, hence, to the nozzle. With a gas generator feeding the nozzle or nozzles, and with the guidance-control mode being chosen, all that remains is to position the nozzle or nozzles according to the desired aperture angle to obtain the desired direction.

  • Patent number: 5005483
Abstract: Disclosed are a method for the ejection of sub-munitions from a projectile with null or low inherent rolling speed as well as a projectile fitted out with means enabling this method to be applied. The front part of the projectile is separated from the rear part by the shifting of a piston in a tube under the action of a pyrotechnical charge. The combination, at this piston and this tube, of grooves, working together with indentations or with a rotating band, creates a rolling motion that is sufficient to communicate an ejection speed, perpendicular to the axis of the projectile, to the sub-munitions.

  • Patent number: 5003861
Abstract: The invention concerns a safety device positioned on a charge releasable from a carrier that, firstly prevents the untimely activation of the charge when this charge is hooked on beneath the carrier and, secondly, makes it possible to know whether any attempt at activation has been made beforehand, in doing so through the display of a position of a sensor of the carrier, forming part of the safety device. The safety device is deployed by means of a cable connected to the carrier. At the moment of release, the cable provided with a knob uses a driving system to drive a sensor which is itself locked by a locking system enabling the display of the position of the sensor and thus releasing the driving system permitting the activation of the charge.

  • Patent number: 5003882
Abstract: For suspending a sub-munition from a plate carried beneath a parachute, an arm is hinged with the plate and the body of the munition, and a structure has two positions for which the sub-munition is respectively vertical or inclined. The structure also includes a system of guiding the tilting between the two positions. The center of gravity of the sub-munition moves downwards on a vertical line during tilting of the sub-munition to an inclined position. The device forming the subject of the invention enables the swinging caused by tilting the sub-munition into an inclined position to be avoided, and it is simple and economical to manufacture.

  • Patent number: 4998480
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for unlocking a system for fixing sub-munitions on board a carrier, namely any flying vehicle (such as a rocket, missile, stand-off missile etc.). Each sub-munition is held on the body of the carrier by a movable holding clamp fixed to the sub-munition locked by a rod against which there lies a roller fixed to the end of the movable holding clamp. A pneumatic system formed by a piston activates the rod comprising different parts with different widths and diameters so that its step part, on which the roller lies, is translated and leaves place for its central part, in such a way that the movable holding clamp can pivot around the shaft, thus releasing the sub-munition.

  • Patent number: 4989492
Abstract: The disclosure concerns the field of charges releasable from an aircraft to which they are fixed and, particularly, the keel beam safety device that prevents the activation of the charge when it is hooked on beneath the aircraft. A mechanical safety device for the keel beam consists in using the driving force of a sensor that is rotationally free in a support, by means of cable going into said sensor, one end of which is fixed to an aircraft and the other end to means for activating a fuse for the firing of a charge. To this cable, there is fixed a ball which, when a tensile force is exerted on the cable, comes into contact with the sensor and draws it, after the unlocking of the holding system, through a sufficient tensile force exerted on the cable, into contact with the aircraft when the charge is fixed beneath the aircraft, thus preventing any additional movement of the cable. When the charge is released, the cable can be pulled freely and enables the charge to be activated.

  • Patent number: 4986188
Abstract: Disclosed is a protective casing for ejectable munitions, having means enabling it to be broken through, this being a necessary operation for the sub-munitions to be ejected, in the next stage, without any difficulty of breaking through and ejection. The fracture lines are obtained by means of screens of high temperature resistant fibers arranged in a plane perpendicular to the internal and external surfaces of the casing. This casing is a part obtained, for example, by fusion and molding. The screen is integrated so that, during the casting of the metal, this metal links up all the fibers forming the screen together. The invention can be applied to protective casings, notably for rockets and munitions carriers.

  • Patent number: 4930422
Abstract: A device for the impervious sealing of a structure, for example a munitions compartment of a rocket, is disclosed. This device comprises an elastic shaped section inside which the edge of the structure and rim of a lid are imperviously embedded. This device further has means for thrusting the lid outwards from the structure. This thrust pushes the rim and/or the edge out of the shaped section through the deformation of this elastic shaped section, and causes the total expulsion of lid. When the device is fitted into a rocket, the moving away of the rim modifies the aerodynamic drag coefficient (Cx) of the rocket. This difference in Cx causes the total expulsion of the lid and thus causes the structure to be opened.
