  • Patent number: 10110893
Abstract: In video quality control and estimation, the joint evaluation of compression artifacts and channel artifacts is a problem. The invention considers the joint perception of both a compression artifact level Dm(V) and a channel artifact level Dh(V) in a method for calculating overall distortion in a video being affected by compression artifacts and channel artifacts. The method comprises a step of adding a compression artifact level Dm(V) and a summand S that is derived from log (Dh(V)) multiplied with a factor that decreases with increasing compression artifact level Dm, such as D(V)=Dm(V)+c·(K?Dm(V))·log(Dh(V)). The result obtained is a measure for the overall distortion.

  • Patent number: 10110921
Abstract: The inventors realized that representing HDR content using LDR content and HDR residual is not unproblematic. The invention therefore proposes representing HDR content using LDR content, LDR residual and global illumination data, instead. That is, it is proposed a method of encoding an HDR video of high dynamic range together with an LDR video, the LDR video providing a lower dynamic range depiction of the HDR video content, the method comprising using processing means for encoding one video of the LDR video and a further LDR video extracted from the HDR video independent from the other video of the LDR video and the HDR video and predictive encoding the other video using the one video as reference, and lossless encoding global illumination data further extracted from the HDR video. This has the advantage that prediction is more stable and globally optimal predictors are more easily found.

  • Patent number: 10103940
Abstract: A method of updating at least two interconnected devices in a local network, a local network comprising at least two interconnected devices and a method of operating a remote management client and a device in this local network are provided. A resource location information of an update archive is communicated from a remote management client in the local network to the other devices in said network. The devices participating in the update communicate participation acknowledgement messages to the remote management client. The participating devices determine whether a next one of a predefined sequence of update statuses is reached. They notify the other participating devices that this update status has been reached and pause until all other participating devices have notified that they also have reached the same update status.

  • Patent number: 10104489
Abstract: A smartphone having two microphones is used for determining the direction of a loudspeaker in a surround system setup. This is performed using smartphone rotation in azimuth and polar angle direction while capturing in its microphones a test signal from a current one of the loudspeakers. From the microphone signals a corresponding TDOA value is calculated, and the smartphone is rotated until that TDOA value is nearly zero, resulting in a loudspeaker direction information.

  • Patent number: 10102450
Abstract: A method for generating superpixels for an image comprising pixels and an apparatus configured to perform the method. A clustering stage clusters the pixels into initial clusters. A determination stage then selects spatially coherent parts of the clusters and determines unconnected fragments of the clusters. • Patent number: 10104412
Abstract: A method and a related electronic device for selecting, from a plurality of candidate video frame sets, a candidate video frame set to be inserted in a video frame slot of a given video content. It comprises obtaining the plurality of candidate video frame sets according to ranking values of a sorting parameter associated with each of the candidate video frame sets, thereby obtaining a list of candidate video frame sets and for each candidate video frame set of the list, determining a processing cost for inserting the candidate video frame set and applying the processing cost for obtaining an updated candidate video frame set ranking value according to the sorting parameter. The list is then sorted according to the updated ranking values of the sorting parameter and a selection of a candidate video frame set of the sorted list according to the updated ranking value.

  • Patent number: 10096119
Abstract: In order to objectively and efficiently measure, visualize and evaluate the quality of images in terms of sharpness, a method for determining a sharpness metric (S) of an image is described. The method includes performing edge detection that results in gradients for the pixels of the image, determining a value representing a contrast metric C of the image, calculating at least three different thresholds (t1,t2,t3) from the image content, and classifying the pixels according to their gradient into at least four groups defined by the thresholds. The sharpness metric (S) is calculated from relationships between the amounts of pixels in the different groups and a multiplicative factor (m) between the at least three thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20180260968
Abstract: There are several types of plenoptic devices and camera arrays available on the market, and all these light field acquisition devices have their proprietary file format. However, there is no standard supporting the acquisition and transmission of multi-dimensional information. It is interesting to obtain information related to a correspondence between pixels of a sensor of said optical acquisition system and an object space of said 10 optical acquisition system. Indeed, knowing which portion of the object space of an optical acquisition system a pixel belonging to the sensor of said optical acquisition system is sensing enables the improvement of signal processing operations. The notion of pixel beam, which represents a volume occupied by a set of rays of light in an object space of an optical system of a camera along with a compact format for storing such information is thus introduce.
