Patent number: 8321398Abstract: The present invention provides a corpus-independent method for determining relevancy of terms to content of text appearing in a document by analyzing the document itself. Conventional information extraction, or other methods, may be applied to a document to generate a list of terms. The invention analyzes the document using relevancy scoring algorithms to determine a term relevancy score representing the term's relevance to the text contained in the document. The scores, including an aggregate score, may be normalized in the process. Based on relevancy scoring, terms are then ranked and further processed. In this manner relevancy is determined based on the subject document itself and by analyzing the occurrences and locations of the terms within the document. Additional techniques may be applied to relate the relevancy scores generated by the present invention to a corpus or collection of documents.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2009Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: Thomson Reuters (Markets) LLCInventors: Yehonatan Aumann, Orgad Keller, Ran Shlivinski

Patent number: 8311923Abstract: A system and method for measuring and creating a score for the performance of one or more contributor recommendations on a single stock. According to one embodiment, the score may be derived via a payoff function that depends on a variety of factors. For example, the factors may include one or more of: i) the performance of the stock; ii) the performance of a selected benchmark; iii) the recommendation of the contributor for the stock; and/or iv) other factors. According to one embodiment the payoff function may be designed such that certain desired characteristics are satisfied.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2011Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: Thomson Reuters (Markets) LLCInventors: Joseph G. Patent number: 8271613Abstract: An asynchronous hypertext messaging system and method are disclosed. The system and method use existing hypertext transfer protocols and is capable of transmitting real-time asynchronous data between server and client regardless of firewalls or proxy servers implemented at the client or the server. In a communication system comprising a client and server interconnected by an internet, initial authentication is performed initially between the server and the client. A secure log in is performed by the client with the server in conjunction with a possible java applet download. The communication server then initiates a multiplexed virtual connection between the server and the client and transmission of asynchronous real-time data can occur over the virtual connection. The virtual connection is periodically refreshed by a request issued from the java applet.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2008Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Assignee: Thomson Reuters (Markets) LLCInventors: Andrew Cunningham, Craig Hellon

Patent number: 8219680Abstract: Information is electronically transmitted from an information embargo setting. The latency and/or lag in releasing information from the information embargo setting is reduced to facilitate dissemination of the embargoed information faster than other entities. The entity controlling the release of information in the information embargo setting may include one or more of a governmental agency (e.g., associated with the United States government, associated with the Canadian government, associated with the European Union and/or one or more states included therein, and/or other agencies associated with other governments), and/or other entities.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2011Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: Thomson Reuters (Markets) LLC.Inventors: Armughan Rafat, Karl J. Publication number: 20120078814Abstract: The system and method described herein may be used to forecast realized volatility via wavelets and non-linear dynamics. In particular, a volatility time series that includes daily volatility values associated with a security may be decomposed into wavelets via multi-resolution analysis and dynamical properties associated with the individual wavelets may be analyzed to identify deterministic and non-deterministic wavelets and produce a volatility forecast derived from a fit computed on the deterministic wavelets. For example, the wavelets may be analyzed to discover time delay, Theiler, and embedding dimension values associated therewith, which may be used to project volatility values associated with each wavelet. The projected volatility values associated with each wavelet may then be summed to produce a volatility forecast associated with the security.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2011Publication date: March 29, 2012Applicant: Thomson Reuters (Markets) LLCInventors: Andrew CLARK, Jeff Kenyon

Publication number: 20110282849Abstract: A system and method for data compression using compression hardware is disclosed. In accordance with the method, a data set in a data stream is received. The data set includes a set of data descriptor fields. The data set is portioned into one or more data subsets using the set of data descriptor fields. One or more tabular slices and an index are generated for at least one of the data subsets using the set of data descriptor fields. The one or more tabular slices are identified by the index. The one or more tabular slices are compressed into a compressed data block by a data compression scheme using a hardware compressor. A compression data file is generated in a database. The compression data file has a header that stores information about the data compression scheme. The compressed data block is stored in the compression data file.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2011Publication date: November 17, 2011Applicant: THOMSON REUTERS (MARKETS) LLCInventors: Ken Williams, Michael Liberty

Publication number: 20110093925Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for managing an entitled data cache. A data server may generate and send entitled data to a data cache server. The data cache server, a server that may be located nearer to the user within a data provider's computer network, may receive and cache the entitled data. A permission server may store user's permissions and transmit the user's permissions to the data server and the data cache server. Upon receiving a request for data, the data cache server may retrieve the requested data from the cache and send a subset of the cached data which matches the user's permissions to the user, without the need to request the data from the data server.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2009Publication date: April 21, 2011Applicant: Thomson Reuters (Markets) LLCInventors: Venkatanarayanan Krishnamoorthy, Srinivasan Varadrajan, Stephen Zucknovich, Jacques Leisy, Vladimir Jornitski

Publication number: 20100211518Abstract: Estimations of carbon dioxide (“C02”) emission of an entity upon the condition of incomplete or missing data uses one or more algorithms implemented in a machine having a processor and a memory and data concerning the entity. The data is applied to an algorithm implemented as code executable in the processor. The algorithm produces a result that comprises an estimate of the C02 emission of the entity. The C02 emission estimate can be output to a user, and the underlying formula and data can inspected and optionally modified by users with suitable permissions. The C02 emission estimate can be applied as a factor in a formula to compute a rating for the entity which can be output from the machine. Error estimates associated with the data used by the algorithm can be generated to provide improved estimates.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 9, 2010Publication date: August 19, 2010Applicant: Thomson Reuters (Markets) LLCInventors: Peter Ohnemus, Christopher Greenwald, Peter Pircher
