Abstract: Disclosed is a mold for casting multiple castings in sand including a flaskless mold and a core assembly. The core assembly is within the flaskless mold with the sand surrounding the core assembly. The core assembly can have a central axis, a plurality of window cores and at least two splitter cores. The plurality of window cores and the at least two splitter cores are alternately stacked to form a plurality of casting cavities along the central axis. In some instances, two of the plurality of window cores are mirror-image oriented with respect to each other along the central axis and two of the plurality of window cores are oriented the same with respect to each other along the central axis.
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for verifying the treatment of molten metal wherein a sensing device detects an in situ response resulting from the treatment of the molten metal. The in situ response is compared to a pre-set limit or condition in order to determine whether or not proper treatment of the molten metal has occurred. In particular, the sensing device detects an in situ response resulting from the mixture of a molten metal addition to a molten metal. An electronic transformation device can be used to transform the in situ response into a response data set. The response data set can be transmitted to and received by a microprocessor. The microprocessor can manipulate the response data set. The in situ response to the treatment of the molten metal can be in the form of heat, light intensity, light wavelength, density of smoke particles, composition of smoke particles, mechanical vibration and combinations thereof.

Abstract: An insert for a casting mold used to produce a sound dampening rotor of a caliper disc brake is provided. The insert includes a ring having an inner diameter, an outer diameter and at least one tab. The insert also includes an inner core made from a refractory material, the inner core being adjacent to the ring. The tab of the ring is operable to position the ring relative to the inner core. Furthermore, the ring and the inner core together can be placed within the casting mold and afford for the desirable and accurate placement of the sound dampening ring within a cast sound dampening composite rotor of a caliper disc brake.
