Abstract: Apparatus for making coffee by the filter method has an integral water reservoir and filter holder (6) of for example a one-piece plastics moulding. The reservoir has a horizontal extension (14) in which the filter holder (13) is located. The reservoir (14) has an integral riser tube (11) for transferring hot water to the filter holder. A filter comprising a moulded one-piece framework (28) that supports a mesh filter material. The base of the filter has spacer ribs (33) that rest on the floor (23) of the filter holder (13). The coffee outlet of the filter holder is closable by an anti-drip device (35) displaceable to permit flow of coffee from the holder (6) when a receptacle is placed beneath the holder.
Abstract: The immersion heater for an appliance includes a mounting plate, a metal sheathed electrical resistance heating element having two end portions which extend through and which are secured to the mounting plate, and a single fastening device for fixing the mounting plate to the body shell of the appliance. The fastening device comprises a threaded heat conductive stud secured to the mounting plate and a nut having a complementary thread. A raised part of the active portion of the heating element is directly secured to and only to the stud, such as by brazing. A bimetallic element is fixed directly to the stud on the outside of the body shell. The stud provides a heat conductive path between the heating element and the bimetallic element. The bimetallic element bends when the appliance is energized `dry` or when the liquid has boiled down to the element and pushes a dolly overcenter to open a pair of contacts and de-energize the heating element.
Abstract: The appliance, e.g. an electric kettle has a body shell, a heating element within the body shell and having two ends which project through the body shell to the outside thereof, and a switch housing mounted on the outside of the body shell. A pair of switching contacts are opened and closed by a switch operating member or dolly. One of the switching contacts is movable by the dolly and is supported relative to the housing. The other switching contact is a fixed contact and is provided at one end of the heating element.
Abstract: The appliance, e.g. an electric kettle, has a body shell, a heating element within the body shell and a switch housing mounted on the outside of the body shell. A switch operating member or dolly is supported relative to the switch housing and is operable to open and close a pair of switching contacts for interrupting and making respectively an electrically conductive path, which includes the heating element, between a pair of terminal pins. The dolly can rock about a pivot between two positions and is urged against the pivot by a leaf spring acting between the dolly and a support. The housing includes the pivot and the support and is formed as an integral plastics moulding.
