Abstract: A method for manufacturing a bag for use in vacuum packaging comprises forming a first panel including a tray for retaining contents within the bag and a second panel. Optionally, the tray can include a plurality of ridges or protuberances for suspending contents such that liquid can collect in the tray. Each panel comprises a gas-impermeable base layer and a heat-sealable inner layer molded from melt-extruded resin. The first panel is overlapped with the second panel, and three of four edges of the panels are heated such that the inner layers bond at the heated edges. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Other features, aspects, and objects of the invention can be obtained from a review of the specification, the figures, and the claims.

  • Patent number: 7114931
Abstract: A rotary pump includes a stator housing and a rotor. The stator housing preferably has an oblong inner surface. The rotor, which is disposed in the stator housing, preferably has a substantially circular outer surface within which a plurality of vane slots are defined. A first chamber is defined between a first half of the oblong inner surface and the outer surface of the rotor. Similarly, a second chamber is defined between a second half of the oblong inner surface, diametrically opposite the first half, and the outer surface of the rotor. Resting within each of the plurality of vane slots is a corresponding sliding vane. A first inlet port and a first outlet port each provide access to the first chamber. Similarly, a second inlet port and a second outlet port each provide access to the second chamber. At least one of the vanes separates each of the first inlet port, the first outlet port, the second inlet port and the second outlet port from one another.

  • Patent number: 7022058
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing an air channel-equipped film for use in vacuum packages, which comprises the step of providing a gas-impermeable base, along with a melt-extruded heat-sealable resin, to a laminating unit consisting of a laminating roll and a cooling roll, to form a heat-sealable resin layer on the gas-impermeable base, characterized in that the heat-sealable resin is molded and quenched in such a way that a plurality of protrusions, corresponding to a plurality of grooves formed in a predetermined pattern on the circumferential surface of the cooling roll, are formed on the molded heat-sealable resin layer, defining channels for the evacuation of air therebetween. The method is simple because of its ability to form air channels without the aid of additional embossing techniques, as well as being economically favorable owing to the employment of no embossing molds.

  • Patent number: 6862980
Abstract: A filter for absorbing ethylene gas and moisture and emitting carbon dioxide that can be removably coupled to a container. The container can have vent openings to allow air to circulate to prevent excess condensation, or the container can be any type of flexible, semirigid, or rigid produce container such as a plastic bag, a refrigerator or a typical plastic container. The contents of the filter are in vapor contact with the internal environment of the container such that it can absorb ethylene gas and moisture in the container and release carbon dioxide into the container to retard the ripening process of the produce stored in the container.
