    Abstract: A device for connecting two optical fibers is disclosed. The connector enables two optical fibers to be coupled in a precise manner which minimizes losses at the connection interface and enables the ends of the optical fibers to be protected when the connection is severed. The connector uses axial and radial alignment means to provide precision alignment of the coupled optical fibers.
