Abstract: A process for the treatment of titanium dioxide pigment which involves adding to a pigment slurry a compound of phosphorus, of aluminium, of zirconium, of titanium and of silicon, adjusting the pH of the slurry to a value of from 3.5 to 4.5, followed by adding to the slurry a compound of phosphorus of an alkaline reacting compound of aluminium prior to the addition of mineral acid to adjust the pH of the slurry to a value of 6.5 to 8.
Abstract: A process for the treatment of titanium dioxide pigment in which there is added to a slurry of the pigment a compound of silicon, of aluminium, of zirconium and of titanium, changing the pH of the slurry to 7.5 to 8.5 prior to adding a compound of silicon, an acidic compound of aluminium and an alkaline compound of aluminium, thereby producing a coated pigment.
Abstract: A process for the production of the highly durable titanium dioxide pigment in which the pigment is coated with a phosphate, a silicate and a hydrous oxide of zirconium and aluminium in specified carefully controlled amounts and order of deposition.
Abstract: A gas distributor tube formed from a non-porous ceramic material having a generally axial passageway at least part of which is in the form of a helix. A treatment chamber or reactor is provided with a number of distributor tubes located in the base of the chamber to permit the introduction of a gas through the passageway of this distributor into the treatment chamber in which a solid material in finely divided form may be maintained in fluid suspension.

Abstract: Apparatus and process suitable for oxidising a metal halide in the vapor phase wherein at least part of the wall of the reaction zone is formed from crimped annular plates separated by uncrimped annular plates to form orifices through which at least one of the reactants can be introduced into the reaction zone.
Abstract: A carrier for a catalyst which is composed of particulate titanium dioxide having a hardness of at least 40, a bulk density of at least 0.8 grams per milliliter and a specific area of less than 5 square meters per gram. The carrier is particularly useful for supporting enzymes or vanadium pentoxide.
Abstract: Apparatus suitable for oxidizing a metal halide in the vapor phase wherein at least part of the wall of the reaction zone is formed from crimped annular plates separated by uncrimped annular plates to form orifices through which at least one of the reactants can be introduced into the reaction zone.
Abstract: A process for the treatment of aqueous sulphuric acid solutions of a metal salt or salts containing ferrous sulphates wherein the pH value of the solution is adjusted by the addition of a calcium compound to selectively precipitate calcium sulphate after which the precipitated calcium sulphate is separated and calcined before adjusting the pH of the mother liquor to a value in the range 7 to 9 by the addition of a calcium-containing compound to precipitate there from solid metal compounds which are then separated and/or calcined.
Abstract: A glazed ceramic article in which the glaze includes titanium dioxide at least some of which is in the form of a metal titanate or a metal titano silicate and having a gloss of from 9 to 55 units at 45.degree. illumination. Also a glazing composition is described prepared by a semi-fritting technique in which the composition includes a mixture of a finely divided frit and an unfritted crystalline silica with the titanium dioxide being included in the frit together with alumina and a source of strontium, calcium or magnesium.
