Patents Assigned to Tire Inflation Systems Corp.
  • Patent number: 5590620
Abstract: A tire air pressure warning device for dual tires mounted on a common hub of a vehicle comprises a housing mounted on a hub component and having first and second pressure sensors connected in flow communication with a corresponding one of the vehicle tires. A first indicator is pivotally mounted on the housing for displacement between stored and actuated positions, and a second indicator is mounted on the first indicator for displacement therewith and for pivotal displacement relative thereto in response to displacement of the first indicator from the stored to the actuated position thereof.

  • Patent number: 5398743
Abstract: A normally closed wheel valve for maintaining an existing air pressure in a tire of a vehicle having a system for inflating and deflating the tire is mounted on the outer end of the wheel hub for rotation therewith and is connected in communication with a source of air under pressure on the vehicle through a coupling on the outer end of the valve which is rotatable relative thereto. The valve comprises axially opposed pneumatically actuated diaphragm elements for controlling the flow of air to and from a pair of tires rotatably mounted on a common axle of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5141589
Abstract: A system for inflating and deflating pneumatic tires of a vehicle through pneumatically actuated tire isolating valves is disclosed which isolates air under pressure in the tires from the system and which utilizes electronically controlled valves for achieving opening of the tire isolating alves and inflating, deflating or checking the pressure. The system is improved by incorporation of a dump valve at each tire which permits rapid deflation of the tire pressure upon demand. The dump valve is tire and system pressure responsive and is integrated into the system in a manner to be responsive to any number of deflated tire pressures. The dump valve comprises a movable piston with two positions wherein the piston is releasably held in the second position by a mechanical detent until a suitable pressure differential occurs across the axial surfaces of the piston to cause the piston to be released from the detent and to move back to the first position.

  • Patent number: 4892128
Abstract: A wheel seal assembly is provided for a vehicle having an onboard system for controlling the pressure of air in a tire of the vehicle. The wheel seal assembly comprises a first annular seal members coaxial with the vehicle axle housing and mounted thereon for axial displacement relative thereto and toward and away from a second annular seal member coaxial with the first seal member and supported on the corresponding wheel assembly of the vehicle which is mounted on the axle housing for rotation relative thereto. The annular seal members may be mounted on the axle housing directly through or integrally with the associated rotating or non-rotating wheel bearing race. The two seal members have annular planar sealing surfaces facially engaging one another and flow passageways therethrough to provide for the flow of air across the seal members during inflation and deflation of the corresponding vehicle tire.

Abstract: A system for inflating and deflating pneumatic tires of a vehicle through pneumatically actuated tire isolating valves is disclosed which isolates air under pressure in the tires from the system and which utilizes electronically controlled valves for achieving opening of the tire isolating valves and inflating, deflating or eluding the pressure. • Patent number: 4782878
Abstract: A system for inflating and deflating pneumatic tires of a vehicle through pneumatically actuated tire isolating valves which isolate air under pressure in the tires from the system comprises electronically controlled valves for achieving opening of the tire isolating valves, inflating or deflating of the vehicle tires and the quick exhausting of air under pressure from the system when the desired tire pressure is reached so as to immediately enable closure of the tire isolating valves to assure obtaining the desired pressure in the tires. Optimum rates of inflating and deflating together with accuracy in obtaining a desired tire pressure are achieved through a unique tire isolating valve construction and electronic controlled circuitry by which signals corresponding to desired and existing tire pressures are electronically compared to provide output signals by which the inflating, deflating and exhaust functions are controlled.

  • Patent number: 4705090
Abstract: A vehicle wheel assembly carrying a pneumatic tire includes a hub rotatably mounted on a fixed axle component and provided with an internal air flow passageway. One end of the passageway communicates with the interior of the tire through a pneumatically actuated check valve, and the other end of the passageway is adapted to be connected to an air pressure control system carried by the vehicle. The latter connection is through a sealing arrangement between the rotating hub and fixed axle component and which includes a displaceable seal on the fixed axle component normally maintained out of contact with the rotatable hub. The displaceable seal is adapted to be moved into engagement with the hub by air under pressure from the air pressure control system after which the vehicle tire can be inflated, deflated or checked for pressure through the operation of appropriate controls in the air pressure control system.
