Patents Assigned to Titan Tool Company
  • Patent number: 6009775
Abstract: A wrench utilizing high inertial torque energy incorporates a flywheel that is rotated by a drive motor. The wrench is activated by a symmetrical clutch to deliver the rotational energy stored in the flywheel to an output drive. Torque reaction is isolated in the flywheel and clutch mechanism and not transmitted to the housing of the wrench.

  • Patent number: 5690004
Abstract: A stud driver and remover and a method of making the same overcomes the problems of the prior art and accommodates driving and removing of studs and subsequent removal of the studs from the stud driver and remover. The stud driver and remover constructed in accordance with the method of the present invention can drive and remove studs of any size without causing any significant damage to the stud, and the stud is subsequently easily removable from the stud driver and remover after a stud removal operation has been performed.

  • Patent number: 5301573
Abstract: A stud driver and remover for studs having non-grip areas includes an improved construction that enables the stud driver and remover to drive and remove studs without damaging a non-grip portion of the stud. The improved stud driver and remover includes five drive rolls, and increased ratio between the cross-sectional areas of the stud and the drive rolls. The stud driver and remover also includes an increased roll length and decreased included angle which allows the roll to penetrate more deeply into the stud. Each of a plurality of cams formed in a core of the tool is provided with a recess to accommodate one of the rolls. These recesses allow the tool to be placed on a stud having a non-grip area such as a flange or threaded area and to drive and remove the stud without damaging the non-grip area.

  • Patent number: 5299473
Abstract: A stud driver and remover for large diameter studs includes an improved construction that enables the stud driver and remover to quickly remove large diameter studs that previously had to be removed usually by drilling. The improved stud driver and remover for large diameter studs includes five drive rolls, and increased ratio between the cross-sectional areas of the stud and the drive rolls. The stud driver and remover also includes an increased roll length and decreased included angle which allows the roll to penetrate more deeply into the stud. A radius of each of a plurality of cams formed in a core of the tool is dependent on the size of at least one of an inner diameter of the main ring, a diameter of one of the rolls and a radius of the stud to be driven and removed. The cooperation between the cams and the core is modified to accept an increased variance in stud size.

  • Patent number: 5119700
Abstract: An automatic stud driving tool having greater concentricity and reduced run-out includes a cylindrical hollow body; a carriage disposed within the body including jaws for selectively gripping a stud; a driven head rotatable within the body and selectively engageable with the carriage; a snap ring assembly; and an annular retaining groove located on the inside of the hollow body. The driven head, located partially within the hollow body, is retained within the body by inserting the snap ring assembly into the retaining groove.

  • Patent number: 4819519
Abstract: A stud driver has threaded jaws with thread relief provided on a leading edge area of the jaws to reduce thread marking or deformation of the thread on the stud when the stud is driven under high torque conditions. The thread relief in the leading edge area of the jaws creates a shallower angle and increases contact area. If the stud driver is subjected to unusually high torques, the increased contact area prevents shearing of the thread on the stud.

  • Patent number: 4590826
Abstract: There is provided a connector for use between rotatably driven tools, preferably an upper tool which is a torque limiting device, and a lower tool which is a stud driving tool. The connector has a driven head disposed within a socket of an adapter housing, the driven head further being disposed within the body of the lower tool when the combination is assembled. The connector can also allow the body of the lower tool to be freely rotatable with respect to both the adapter housing and the driven head when assembled. Both the torque limiting device and the stud driving tool can be of improved configurations themselves.

  • Patent number: 4513643
Abstract: An automatic stud driving tool is provided having a carriage, and a set of jaws disposed within the carriage. The jaws and carriage are provided with permanent contours that prevent the jaws from being withdrawn from the carriage when the jaws are open, but which do not prevent such withdrawal when the jaws are closed. The carriage and jaws are rotationally interlocked, and the carriage is capable of axial movement within a body element only when the jaws are closed, and axial movement of the carriage within the body results in the engagement and disengagement of a rotational drive from the carriage. Automatic operation of the tool can be enhanced through the use of a depth gauge.

  • Patent number: 4476749
Abstract: A stud driver for the insertion of studs into a workpiece. The stud driver automatically grasps the stud once the stud is inserted into the stud driver. Once the stud is inserted into the workpiece, the stud driver automatically releases the stud. The stud driver employs a set of jaws to grasp the stud. The jaws, which are biased open by a plunger means, are enclosed with a carriage. In the peripheral wall of the carriage, two sets of balls are held. The balls prevent the jaws from sliding out of the carriage and from rotating in the carriage. The carriage is driven by a driven head which is connected to the driving means. The carriage and driven head are held in an uncomplicated hollow cylinder which is the body.

Grooves in the faces of the jaws cooperate with the balls and allow a limited amount of reciprocation of the jaws within the carriage. Movement of the carriage within the body is not essential, so that the body serves to hold the balls in the carriage and to provide structural support.
