  • Patent number: 6048266
Abstract: A glazed-in ventilator (10) includes a flap (12) which is rotatable about its longitudinal axis. Each end of the flap is connected by a thumb wheel (24) to an end cap (28). Inside the thumb wheel, a series of projections (36) engage a conical surface (34). This engagement provides an axial thrust along the flap which ensures that the structure of the ventilator is rigid. In addition, the ventilator may be manufactured to relatively low tolerances and the friction coupling provided by the engagement of pegs (36) and surface (34) works well even if the flap is not exactly the designed length.

  • Patent number: 5769706
Abstract: A slot ventilator 14 is located adjacent (entrance apertures 30, 38 of a window frame 10 and sash spar 12. The entrance apertures lead in substantially perpendicular directions into ventilation slots 22, 32 through the frame spar and sash spar. An abutment 56 is provided for location between the two spars. A spacer 50 and gasket 54 are located adjacent the entrance to the sash spar, and a rotatable closure member 62 controls the effective outlet area of the ventilator.

  • Patent number: 5746654
Abstract: A vented frame (1) includes an air passage of L-shaped section having a horizontal portion (8) and a vertical portion (9). A ventilator (7) is inserted into the vertical portion and comprises an elongate main body with first and second openings (10), (11) diametrically opposed to one another. A closure member controls the passage of air through the ventilator. The ventilator consists of two parts which are separable from one another and, once installed, the lower of the two parts can be replaced or repaired, while the other part is left in place.

  • Patent number: 5702297
Abstract: A slot ventilator (100, 500) comprises a slotted backing member (24, 124, 424, 524), an elongate facing strip (26, 126, 426, 526, 626), and a linkage mechanism connecting the backing member and facing strip with one another, the linkage mechanism being arrange to permit generally translational forward and backward movement of the facing strip between a closed position in which the slot is closed and an open position in which the facing strip is spaced in front of the backing member. The linkage mechanism includes a hinge (58, 158, 300) allowing the facing strip to rotate about a longitudinal axis to vary the angular orientation thereof. When installed horizontally in a window frame (14, 588, 588') the facing strip may be moved forwards and backwards to increase and decrease ventilation, and may be rotated about the hinge to divide incoming ventilation favourably between downward and upward directions.

  • Patent number: 5558574
Abstract: A slot ventilator has first and second base portions which in use are secured to a facia, for example a window frame, one at each end of an elongate opening therein. An elongate body portion is secured to the base portions by respective first and second pivoting parallel motion links. The body has a handle whereby it may be moved between an open position, and a closed position in which the aperture is sealed by sealing flanges which extend out below the body.

  • Patent number: 5518452
Abstract: A controllable slot ventilator comprises first and second parallel side walls which define an air passage between them. A closure member is mounted adjacent the front edges of the side walls via parallel motion links, which allow the closure member to move generally away from and towards the side walls to open and close the ventilator. At the rear of the side walls, i.e. the opposite end to the closure member, a mounting flange is fitted, whereby the ventilator is mounted to a member. When the ventilator is installed in a slot, it is preassembled and then inserted into the slot from one end.

  • Patent number: 5344366
Abstract: A canopy for use with a ventilator slot extending through a window frame has pressure differential responsive flow control means arranged to progressively close the flow passage through the canopy as the pressure differential increases, thus preventing draughts. The canopy has a body with an inlet and an outlet and a bowed wall therebetween. A normally straight baffle strip is attached to the center of the wall and there are non-aligned apertures in the wall and the baffle respectively. When the pressure differential between the inlet and outlet is low, the baffle is well-spaced from the wall but as the pressure differential increases the baffle is bowed progressively towards the wall against the inherent bias of the strip to progressively close the flow path through the apertures.

  • Patent number: 5244434
Abstract: A controllable slot ventilator has a housing and a closure member pivotably mounted on the housing to selectively close a vent in the housing. The closure member is supported on linking elements which are mounted on the closure member. The linking elements are arranged so as to rotate when the closure is moved between the open and closed position. The angle between a line, passing between the pivot points of the linking element, and the general plane of the closure member increases when the closure member moves to the open position.

  • Patent number: 5219312
Abstract: A slot ventilator having a canopy with a downwardly facing air inlet and a rear wall having an air outlet which, in use, leads to the slot with which the ventilator is associated includes at least one longitudinally extending baffle which increases the flow path between the inlet face and the outlet, at least one surface of the baffle being formed with corrugations which reduce noise generated by air flowing through the ventilator. The ventilator comprises a profile member affording upper and front walls of the canopy and at least one insert slidable longitudinally into the profile member and affording the baffle or baffles. Preferably, the ventilator includes at least two of the said inserts, one being longer than the other.

  • Patent number: 4989430
Abstract: A latch mechanism for a door or the like includes first and second rotatable latch operating members which operate a latching bolt or the like. An axially movable square section spindle extends through complementary holes in both members. In an engaged position, the spindle operates both members when rotated. In a disengaged position, a circular section portion of the spindle registers with a hole in one of the members. In the disengaged position the bolt can be operated by the first member even though the second member may be prevented from rotating by means of pins. The spindle can be moved between engaged and disengaged positions by a push-rod extending out of the door. Thus, when the second member is locked it may be overriden by actuation of the rod and the first member.

  • Patent number: 4727797
Abstract: A sliding sash window ventilator assembly for insertion between one sash and the window frame. A ventilation channel is closable by a facing member mounted by a parallel motion linkage for adjustment of its position. The facing member is disposed and mounted such that it fails to extend beyond the overall dimensions of the ventilator assembly even when fully open, to thus avoid obstructing motion of the sashes. Preferably, the facing member is mounted on external flange members of the assembly for ease of construction.
