Abstract: A method, mobile device and system are provided for managing and displaying email messages on a device having security classification metadata. The security classification metadata is extracted on the mobile device from the email messages. A presentation characteristic for the email message is determined based on a comparison of the extracted security classification metadata of the email message to a security classification policy. The email messages on the device can then be presented in accordance with the determined presentation characteristic of each respective email associated with the security classification metadata. In addition, in replying to an email in one or more subsets of recipients of the email message can be determined where each of the recipients of a respective subset having at least one security classification in common.

Abstract: A toolbar in a document creation application provides the ability to classify documents based on specific properties such as security classification. The toolbar through dropdown selections allows users to select the appropriate classification and properties based upon the content of the document and have appropriate classifiers added to the document. Document classification properties are generated that are associated with the document in the document properties and by inserting visual markings that allow users to quickly identify the security, sensitivity, intended distribution or retention. By utilizing the classification toolbar a user can classify an document by one or more classification levels and be ensured that the classification will be visible to any person viewing the document.

A popup dialog adds the ability to classify message such as web e-mail, calendar items and meeting appointments based on specific properties such as security classification, information type, document type, document retention, document caveats, and the like associated with the message. The popup dialog through dropdown selections allows users to select the appropriate classification and properties based upon the content of the message. Administrators can predefine all the classification selections that are available to the user. E-mail classification properties are generated that are associated with the message by metadata insertion and by inserting visual markings that allow users to quickly identify the security, sensitivity, intended distribution or retention of the e-mail or calendar item.

Abstract: A method and system method for e-mail management of e-mails having embedded classification metadata. A query from an end user to access an e-mail account by an e-mail client is received. It is then determined whether the query has come from an insecure e-mail client, such as a web e-mail client. Access rules for defining classification access restrictions for the e-mail client to access e-mail in the e-mail account are retrieved when the e-mail client is determined to be insecure. The e-mail query can then be modified before sending to an e-mail server storing the email account. The query is modified based on the retrieved access rules to exclude retrieval of e-mails based upon the e-mail classification metadata.
