Abstract: A method, mobile device and system are provided for managing and displaying email messages on a device having security classification metadata. The security classification metadata is extracted on the mobile device from the email messages. A presentation characteristic for the email message is determined based on a comparison of the extracted security classification metadata of the email message to a security classification policy. The email messages on the device can then be presented in accordance with the determined presentation characteristic of each respective email associated with the security classification metadata. In addition, in replying to an email in one or more subsets of recipients of the email message can be determined where each of the recipients of a respective subset having at least one security classification in common.

Abstract: A method of metadata management is provided. Metadata associated with information objects is important in the management and classification of electronic information referred to as information objects. A metadata schema structure definition is defined enabling a metadata schema to be applied to the information objects to ensure consistent creation and management of hierarchical metadata across and organization and interoperability between different metadata schemas.

Abstract: A toolbar in a document creation application provides the ability to classify documents based on specific properties such as security classification. The toolbar through dropdown selections allows users to select the appropriate classification and properties based upon the content of the document and have appropriate classifiers added to the document. Document classification properties are generated that are associated with the document in the document properties and by inserting visual markings that allow users to quickly identify the security, sensitivity, intended distribution or retention. By utilizing the classification toolbar a user can classify an document by one or more classification levels and be ensured that the classification will be visible to any person viewing the document.

Using the rules, multiple versions of the email message, each corresponding to recipients with specific clearance levels are generated. A selective redacting of certain segments of the email message concurrently with sending previously redacted segments of the same email message is described. A corresponding system for classifying and redacting electronic documents is also provided.

Abstract: A method and system for generating trusted security labels in electronic documents is disclosed. The method comprises determining parts of the document to be cryptographically bound to the security label and hashing them; hashing the security label; specifying any necessary policies as signable signature properties; and digitally signing the collection of these items. The resulting security label is trusted, because it is digitally signed and its digital signature also covers the parts of the document to be protected, thus allowing any tampering of the security label or the covered parts of the document to be detectable. A corresponding system for generating trusted security labels is also provided.

Abstract: A method and system method for e-mail management of e-mails having embedded classification metadata. A query from an end user to access an e-mail account by an e-mail client is received. It is then determined whether the query has come from an insecure e-mail client, such as a web e-mail client. Access rules for defining classification access restrictions for the e-mail client to access e-mail in the e-mail account are retrieved when the e-mail client is determined to be insecure. The e-mail query can then be modified before sending to an e-mail server storing the email account. The query is modified based on the retrieved access rules to exclude retrieval of e-mails based upon the e-mail classification metadata.
