  • Patent number: 6015361
Abstract: A differential apparatus includes a differential casing, a pair of output side gears disposed in the differential casing, a differential mechanism distributing driving force of an engine, a clutch for operatively connecting the differential casing with the axles of the vehicle, an actuator for releasing the clutch from its connecting operation, and an urging member for causing the clutch to connect the differential casing with the axles of the vehicle. When the actuator is inactivated, the urging member serves to attain the connecting operation of the clutch. Therefore, even if the actuator is in a bad condition, four-wheel driving condition of the vehicle can be maintained. Therefore, the differential apparatus allows the vehicle to escape from a bad road.

  • Patent number: 5938420
Abstract: A fastening structure has a screw rotor fixing a rotor shaft to a shaft hole of a rotor body. A casing includes the rotor therein, and a positioning portion and a screw portion are arranged between the shaft hole and the rotor shaft. Press fit portions are arranged at both axial ends of the shaft hole. The screw portion receives driving torque inputted to the rotor shaft and moves the rotor body so that the shaft hole and the rotor shaft hit against each other in the positioning portion. Accordingly, a fixing function of the rotor body and the rotor shaft is strengthened as the input torque to the rotor is increased. Further, the rotor has a simple structure and is cheaply manufactured. Furthermore, it is possible to prevent reductions in performance and durability of the rotor caused by any shift in position between the rotor body and the rotor shaft.

  • Patent number: 5890989
Abstract: A differential apparatus for a part-time four-wheel drive vehicle is provided. The differential apparatus includes an outer differential casing, an inner differential casing, a clutch member adjacent to the inner differential casing, a pair of dog clutches, a differential gear system arranged in the inner differential casing and an actuator body for actuating the clutch member. One of the dog clutches is connected with the inner differential casing, while the other of the dog clutches is formed on the clutch member. When the vehicle is traveling under two-wheel drive, the inner differential casing and the differential gear system are raced, while the outer differential casing and the clutch member do not race. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce the racing loss of these members and the noise caused by the racing loss.

  • Patent number: 5868643
Abstract: A differential apparatus includes a differential casing, a pair of side gears and plural pairs of pinion gears. The pinion gears are accommodated in bores formed in the differential casing, respectively. Each pinion gear has an outer diameter smaller than that of a standard gear to be determined corresponding to predetermined gear specifications. With such a forming of the pinion gears, the tip circular thickness of each pinion gear is increased, so that surface pressure at respective tips of the pinion gears is reduced to improve the seizure resistant capability.

  • Patent number: 5857936
Abstract: A differential apparatus has a differential casing, a pinion gear, a pair of side gears engaged with the pinion gear, and a cone clutch for limiting a differential movement between the side gears. In this differential apparatus, the cone clutch is constructed by a female side cone portion formed in an inner circumference of the differential casing, and a male side cone portion formed in an outer circumference of the pair of side gears. The female side cone portion is formed in the shape of a tapered face in which a conical generating line is a straight line. The male side cone portion is formed in the shape of a tapered face having a predetermined curvature and a generating line projecting to the female side cone portion. Thus, no sliding portion is offset to a small diameter portion even when thrust applied to the cone clutch is increased, thereby improving durability of the cone clutch.

  • Patent number: 5839985
Abstract: A differential apparatus comprises: a casing (1) rotated by an external power; a first shaft (9) rotatably supported by the casing: a second shaft (11) rotatably supported by the casing; a first side gear (17) formed integral with the first shaft: a second side gear (19) formed integral with the second shaft; and a helical pinion gear assembly (29. 31) geared between the first and second side gears within the casing filled with a viscous fluid. Therefore, a differential limiting force can be generated by gearing between the helical pinion gear assembly and tire first and second side gears, when the viscous fluid is pressurized and circulated within the casing by a gear pumping action of the helical pinion gear assembly caused by differential motion between the first and second side gears, even if the torque applied to one of the side gears is zero (as when one tire is floated perfectly from a road surface).

  • Patent number: 5839986
Abstract: A differential device for a four wheel drive vehicle. The differential device has a differential gear mechanism which distributes driving force of an engine inputted through a differential case to a pair of side gears which in turn drive a pair of output shafts. A sleeve is connected to one of the output shafts and a movable member is movably connected to the sleeve. A dog clutch is formed between a flange member of a side gear and the movable member. • Patent number: 5823907
Abstract: A differential apparatus includes a differential casing, a pair of output side gears, a pair of output shafts connected to the output side gears, four pairs of long and short accommodating bores formed in the differential casing and long and short pinion gears accommodated in the accommodating bores. In arrangement, these pairs of accommodating bores are divided equally in the circumferential direction of the differential casing. The output shafts are prevented from slipping out of the differential casing by C-shaped clips. These accommodating bores are arranged so that, between two neighboring pairs of accommodating bores in the circumferential direction, the short accommodating bore in the one pair adjoins the short accommodating bore of the other pair. The differential casing is provided with an elongated hole which substantially bridges the adjoining short accommodating bores.
