  • Patent number: 5334984
Abstract: A direction finding method and system for locating the direction of a transmission source based on an electromagnetic wave which is transmitted from the transmission source and is received by an antenna means at a receiving end apparatus. The transmission source transmits an angle-modulated wave. Meanwhile, the receiving end apparatus receives the transmitted wave, converts into electrical signals a beat frequency signal which is caused by direct and reflected waves contained in the received wave, and time-averaging the electrical signals, thus minimizing a angle error due to a multipass interference.

  • Patent number: 5231997
Abstract: A heating apparatus for hyperthermia utilizes electromagnetic waves for locally heating cancerous cells within a living body. Electromagnetic waves output from a single electromagnetic wave generating means are branched into a plurality of branched electromagnetic waves, which are respectively employed to conduct hyperthermia treatments for a plurality of patients. The whole of the hyperthermia system is controlled in a concentrated fashion from a single section by means of time-division multiplexing. It is therefore possible for a plurality of patients to be subjected to hyperthermia treatment at the same time and in parallel with each other, even when the conditions of these patients differ from one another. Further, it is advantageously possible to simplify the arrangement of the system as a whole and stabilize the control of the system.

Abstract: A heating apparatus for hyperthermia utilizes electromagnetic waves for locally heating cancerous cells within a living body. When it is necessary for a plurality of patients to be subjected to hyperthermia treatment at the same time and in parallel with each other, the control of a plurality of electromagnetic wave outputs and the control of cooling of the surface of a heated region are effected by a centralized control which employs time-division multiplexing. Thus, it is advantageously possible to efficiently carry out a hyperthermia treatment which is fitting for the condition of each of a plurality of patients.

  • Patent number: 5065162
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a radiowave relay station in which image information or the like is transmitted by a helicopter from a first station to a second station. A direction finding device is provided which detects the direction of a transmitting source, i.e., a first station. The direction finding device calculates the vertical directional angle .phi. representing the direction of an incoming radiowave which is transmitted from the first station. This direction finding device allows the helicopter performing a relay function to fly rapidly to a contact point with the first station, i.e., in a vicinity of the first station. The direction finding device may also provide information to control an antenna driving portion for adjusting a receiving antenna located on the helicopter.

  • Patent number: 5027130
Abstract: A radome includes a radome member formed of a dielectric to protect an antenna element from outside space and a structural member formed of metal for supporting the antenna element at the center thereof and to which the radome member is joined at the periphery of the antenna element to support the radome member. When the radome member is formed of dielectric and the structural member is formed of metal, the junction therebetween serves as a kind of antenna and the radiation characteristic of the ordinary antenna element is disturbed. To solve this problem, a portion of the radome member through which an electric wave is transmitted is formed of material through which an electromagnetic wave having a frequency identical with that of the electric wave is transmitted and a junction formed between the radome member and the structural member has a structure for absorbing the electric wave.

  • Patent number: 4930358
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of and an apparatus for measuring flow velocity by using ultrasonic waves. Sound velocities of wedge portions constituting ultrasonic transducers provided at the upstream and the downstream sides of a piping, respectively, are measured, and the ultrasonic wave is oscillated from the upstream side to the downstream side and from the downstream side to the upstream side, respectively, and propagated in a fluid in the piping and respective times from the oscillating to receiving are measured. These measured values are substituted into a predetermined function and calculated, to thereby search the flow velocity of the fluid in the piping.

  • Patent number: 4924171
Abstract: Between two units which are separately arranged, a power source signal is supplied from one of the two units to the other unit via electromagnetic induction coupling by using induction coils, and data signals are mutually transmitted and received between both of the units. A change in coupling distance between the induction coils provided for the two units is detected from a signal level of a reception signal from the unit which receives the power supply. When the reception signal level decreases, the signal level of the power supply signal is increased.
