Patent number: 6172501Abstract: A detecting coil device mounted on part of a cable to evaluate the degree of corrosion of the cable, which is used, for example, on suspension or skew bridges. The detecting coil device is provided with a detecting coil and Hall elements. A magnetizer having a magnetizing coil is mounted as to enclose the cable and the detecting coil device. When current flows through the magnetizing coil, it magnetizes the cable. The magnetic field strength is detected by the Hall element, and the amount of magnetic flux passing through the cable is detected using the detecting coil. The cross-sectional area of the cable is also calculated on the basis of the magnetic field strength and the amount of magnetic flux which are detected and the permeability of the cable. The degree at which the cross-sectional area of the cable is decreased (the corrosion degree) is evaluated by comparing the calculated cross-sectional area of the cable with the cross-sectional area of a reference cable.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1999Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Assignee: Tokyo Rope Mfg. Patent number: 6163757Abstract: The characteristics of the wire are calculated, the wire having a cross-sectional shape which is substantially uniform along its length and having a length long enough in comparison with a diameter being deformed. The wire is divided into a plurality of elements with predetermined spacing along the length. When the wire is deformed, the shape of the wire after the deformation is determined. In the determined shape, a tangential stiffness equation using the element as a basis is calculated, and the calculated tangential stiffness equation is translated into a tangential stiffness equation using the whole of the wire as a basis. A global stiffness equation representing the whole wire is calculated from the tangential stiffness equation obtained by the translation. A load or a displacement produced in each portion of the wire is calculated from the global stiffness equation and the determined shape of the wire.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1998Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: Tokyo Rope Mfg.
