  • Patent number: 4491162
Abstract: A hand held duplicator tool which provides very stable and accurate operation for duplicating on a wood turning lathe the configuration of a pattern held on the lathe. The duplicator tool includes a movable platform that is moveably supported on a table surface where the table is quickly and easily attached in position on a wood lathe frame to provide a support for moving the tool. The tool can be adjusted for height and used easily and stably in duplicating parts. Additionally, a shield over the workpiece is used in combination with the tool and includes a slot to permit the duplicator tool to be inserted against a workpiece. A vacuum supply is connected to the shield to carry dust, shavings and the like away from the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4398579
Abstract: A lathe work center device centers a workpiece about an axis of rotation on a lathe. The lathe has two tool centers with at least one tool center being driven and both tool centers coaxially positioned about the axis of rotation. The work center device includes a substantially flat main ring portion having an outer periphery. A plurality of spurs integral with the main ring portion project toward and are embedded within the workpiece. The spurs are positioned on a side of the ring portion that is adjacent to the workpiece, proximate the outer periphery. A centering portion integral with the main ring portion projects outwardly therefrom on a side of the main ring portion opposite the spurs. Preferably, the centering portion has a frusto conical configuration and engages the tip of a tool center, locating the workpiece about the axis of rotation. A plurality of lugs proximate the outer periphery engage cooperating slots in the driven tool center for rotating the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4034633
Abstract: A safety shield construction for use with wood turning lathes and similar machines which provide a "see through" shield mounted in a perimeter frame which is movable between closed and open positions. Inertia actuated locks prevent the shield from being knocked open by a sharp blow from a broken workpiece, but permit the shield to be moved to the open position manually. The inertia locks are fail safe and are moved to locked position whenever the shield is moved to closed position. Thus if the inertia locks become inoperative they will be in locked position for safety. The shield construction includes rigid supports attached to the lathe bed which utilize a rigid torque tube that attaches on brackets which permit adjustment of the shield along the length of the lathe to not only serve as a shield for long workpieces, but also as a shield during face plate operation.
