    Abstract: A method of generating a multiplexed image for printing that can be observed in a plurality of modes includes determining a finite shape of a multiplexed palette in a combined color space. The contrast of the multiplexed image in each mode can be optimized by determining a maximum volume hyperrectangle enclosed in the finite shape. Gamut mapping to this maximum volume hyperrectangle allows for generation of a multiplexed image that has a maximum contrast and is free from artifacts caused by an interdependency between the colors in each mode. Performing a dimensionality reduction using PCA allows for reducing the complexity of the optimization problem.

    Abstract: A personalizable security document includes a combination of two secure features, namely, a laser-engravable material, and a hologram overlapping the laser-engravable material. The metallic properties of the laser-engravable material result in an enhancement of the holographic effect obtained from the hologram. Additionally, the hologram may extend to other portions of the security document in a continuous manner, for example, as a full-page hologram. This may connect the secondary image formed in the laser-engravable material with other features provided in different portions of the security document to further increase the security.

Security can be further enhanced by providing a watermark below the laser-engravable material. Further, by providing appropriate structures in the embossed pattern and the laser-engravable material, a personalized security document exhibiting a moiré effect can be obtained.
