  • Patent number: 7678150
Abstract: A total shoulder prosthesis includes a glenoidal component a substantially hemispherical convex articular surface and of which a center of curvature is adapted, when the prosthesis is implanted, to be located in the glenoid cavity or in the immediate vicinity thereof, and a humeral component defining a concave articular surface adapted to cooperate with the convex articular surface of the glenoidal component. The concave humeral articular surface is defined by a metallic part of the humeral component to thereby reduce a space requirement of the prosthesis.

  • Publication number: 20090287309
Abstract: A method for implanting an intra-articular shoulder prosthesis is provided. The method includes removing a proximal portion of a humerus. The proximal portion of the humerus preferably forms a resected portion. The resected portion has a convex outer surface and an inner surface. The method further includes engaging the convex outer surface of the resected portion with a cut surface of the proximal portion of the humerus. The cut surface of the proximal portion of the humerus and/or the inner surface of the resected portion are optionally processed to form a generally concave surface, such as by impacting. In one embodiment, the inner surface of the resected portion is impacted into engagement with the cut surface of the proximal portion of the humerus. The generally concave inner surface of the resected portion forms a concave articular surface to receive an interpositional implant.

  • Patent number: 7608075
Abstract: A humeral nail includes an elongated body, a plurality of interlocking devices and a locking device. The elongated body is at least partially insertable into a medullary canal of a humerus and has a proximal part with a plurality of orifices. The interlocking devices are insertable into the orifices to interlock initially split humeral fragments. The locking device is capable of locking the interlocking devices within the orifices. The locking device is free to move relative to the body between a free passage position in which the locking device enables free passage of the interlocking devices through the orifices, and a locking position in which the locking device locks the interlocking devices in position with respect to the orifices.

  • Patent number: 7544211
Abstract: A low-profile offset stem tibial implant includes a tray with a plate that extends transversely around a first tibial axis. The plate includes a distal surface adapted to engage against the prepared surface of the tibia. An engagement portion extends away from the distal surface of the plate substantially along the first tibial axis. A stem is provided with a distal end adapted to be introduced into the medullary canal of the tibia along a second tibial axis and a proximal end. One or more adapter elements are provided with a proximal portion sized to engage with the engagement portion of the plate along the first tibial axis. The adapter element also includes a distal portion adapted to engage with the proximal end of the stem along the second tibial axis. The adapter element permits adjustment of the medio-lateral and antero-posterior position of the second tibial axis relative to the first tibial axis.

  • Publication number: 20090048687
Abstract: A method for implanting a malleolar implant in an ankle joint. A spacer block is positioned between a lower portion of a tibia and an upper portion of an astragalus in the ankle joint. A guide attached to the spacer block is positioned opposite an outer surface of a fibular malleolus. A bore aligned with the guide is formed through the fibular malleolus. The spacer block is removed from between the tibia and the astragalus. A shank of the malleolar implant is engaged with the bore from an inner surface of the fibular malleolus. The shank is advanced into the bore so an inner surface of a head of the malleolar implant engages the inner surface of the fibular malleolus.

  • Patent number: 7470287
Abstract: The prosthesis according to the invention comprises a first component, humeral or femoral, presenting a concave surface of articulation and a second, intermediate component presenting first and second convex surfaces of articulation intended to cooperate respectively with the concave surface of articulation of the first component and with a glenoidal or acetabular concave surface of articulation. The second component is hollow and defines a volume for receiving a head of a member belonging to the first component, this member being connected to a metaphyseal part of the first component by a stem, the head being connected to the second component by traversing an opening made in a ring of the second component mounted on a cup of which the outer surface forms the second convex surface of articulation of the second component. The first convex surface of articulation of the second component is formed on the outer surface of the ring, around the aforementioned opening.

  • Patent number: 7468077
Abstract: The distal end part of the retractor according to the invention is provided both with terminal tips for abutment on one of the femoral condylar walls which define therebetween the intercondylar space, and with a wing extending laterally in projection from this end part in order to form a frontal surface for thrust, in a medial-lateral direction, of that part of the quadriceps muscle tendon containing the patella when the tips are in abutment in the intercondylar space. By using this retractor as a lever, the wing efficiently reclines the patella, without turning it completely on itself, entirely exposing one of the femoral condyles. This invention is more particularly applicable to a surgical procedure for implanting a unicompartmental knee prosthesis.

  • Patent number: 7465319
Abstract: This prosthesis comprises a humeral or femoral component and an intermediate component. The concave surface of articulation of the humeral or femoral component is formed by a plate connected by a neck to a part of this component adapted to be anchored in the humeral or femoral medullary cavity. The intermediate component is provided with a member for retaining the humeral or femoral component in a position where the plate is in abutment against the first convex surface of the intermediate component. The retaining member defines a non-circular passage in which the neck is adapted to be displaced as a function of the movements of the humeral or femoral component with respect to the other components of the prosthesis. The retaining member defines with the first convex surface of articulation of the intermediate component a volume for receiving a part of the plate projecting radially with respect to the neck.

  • Patent number: 7396357
Abstract: An ancillary tool and method for manipulating and implanting a prosthetic acetabulum including a tool provided, adjacent a distal part, with a head for interacting with an endpiece that is used for gripping the acetabulum and, in its proximal part, with a surface for application of a force along the handle. The endpiece is preferably removably connected to the distal end of the handle. The endpiece includes an elastically deformable ring having an outer face for expanding radially outwardly to initially grip the acetabulum and an opposite face for interaction with the head of the handle, such that upon a force being applied to drive the head into a cavity of the endpiece, the ring is radially expanded to expand the acetabulum in place after which the ring elastically returns to its original shape as the head is removed from the cavity.

  • Patent number: 7364694
Abstract: A prosthetic implant made of polyethylene is packaged in a sterile manner by being placed in a flexible, gas-impermeable sachet after which a vacuum is created in the sachet and it is hermetically closed. The sachet is subsequently placed in a gas-impermeable envelope and an inert gaseous atmosphere is established in the envelope and the envelope is closed hermetically. The assembly formed by the implant, the sachet and the envelope is then exposed to radiation.

  • Patent number: 7309360
Abstract: A set of humeral components for a total shoulder prosthesis, wherein each component is formed by an anchoring stem and a metaphyseal part which defines a concave surface of articulation in the form of a portion of a sphere. The offset between an axis of symmetry of this surface and a central axis of the metaphyseal part varies between the different components of the set. This makes it possible to limit or to avoid, by a reasoned choice of the humeral component used, an interference with the pillar of the scapula during a movement of adduction.

  • Publication number: 20070270718
Abstract: This surgical apparatus comprises, on the one hand, means for spatial marking-out of the patella and femur of a patient to be operated on, and, on the other hand, means for simultaneous and relative representation of this patella provided virtually with a patellar implant of the prosthesis, and of this femur provided virtually with a femoral implant of the prosthesis, in a transverse plane passing both through the patella and through the trochlea of the aforementioned femoral implant. Using this apparatus, the surgeon can easily and quickly check the congruent position of the patellar implant with respect to the prosthetic femoral trochlea in order to reduce the risks of subsequent dislocations of the patella fitted with the prosthesis.
