Abstract: The invention relates to a grinding machine for grinding a workpiece, which has been set on a chuck top surface, by moving a rotating grinding wheel in relation to the workpiece. The grinding machine includes: a microscope configured to be vertically movable; a CCD camera configured to take an image viewed through the microscope; and an image processor configured to process the image taken by the CCD camera to measure a vertical distance between a reference plane of the microscope and an object of the microscope. The image processor is adapted to measure the vertical distance between the reference plane of the microscope and the object of the microscope based on sharpness of the image, which corresponds to how clear the microscope is focused.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to provide a method for manufacturing a die for press forming of glass in which cracks are not easily caused in a surface covering layer. A surface covering layer made of an amorphous Ni—P alloy is formed on the surface of a base material made of a steel having a martensitic structure or made of steel in which ?-carbide is dispersed in low carbon martensite matrix. Then, the base material and the surface covering layer are heated to change the base material into a troostitic structure or a sorbitic structure and change the surface covering layer into a eutectic structure of Ni and Ni3P. Preferably, the base material contains 0.3 wt % or more and 2.7 wt % or less of carbon and 13 wt % or less of chromium, and the heat treatment is carried out at 270° C. or more.
Abstract: To provide a mold clamping apparatus that a new actuator is not necessary for a mold thickness adjustment and that the mold thickness adjustment can be performed at low cost. A mold clamping apparatus has a tie bar having a piston and a coupled groove, a cylinder for mold clamping that has the piston of the tie bar built in and that pressured driving liquid for generating mold clamping force is supplied, a half nut coupled with the tie bar releasably by meshing with the coupled groove, a position sensor detecting a position of a moving direction of the tie bar, a direction change valve changing a supply of the driving liquid between a first cylinder chamber and a second cylinder chamber, and a control apparatus positioning a position of the tie bar at a position that the half nut and the coupled groove are able to be meshed by controlling the direction change valve in response to the position of the tie bar detected by the position sensor.
Abstract: A machine tool with automatic changeable tables that has an immobile bed unit. Mounted on the bed unit are linear guides. Multiple table units move along the linear guides for mounting and dismounting workpieces. The table units are placed on the linear guides and into position by a transferring drive unit. The present invention allows workpieces to be mounted and dismounted at a remote area while machining is in process.
