  • Patent number: 8441204
Abstract: A power supply device according to one embodiment is configured to control a lighting of semiconductor light-emitting elements, wherein a dimming signal is canceled during a predetermined time period (T) from a timing immediately after power-ON, so as to light on light-emitting diodes to have a predetermined light amount, for example, a minimum light amount. After an elapse of the predetermined time period (T), cancellation of the dimming signal is released to light on the light-emitting diodes to have a light amount instructed by the dimming signal.

Abstract: A self-ballasted fluorescent lamp capable of achieving a similar appearance to that of an electric light bulb for general illumination includes a base that is attached to a bottom end of a cover and a luminous tube that is supported at a top end of the cover. Electronic components forming a lighting circuit are mounted on a substrate. The substrate is formed to have such a width dimension that allows the substrate to be inserted into the base. The substrate is vertically disposed along a center axis of the base at a position offset from the center axis. Large electronic components are disposed on a first face of the substrate, which faces a large component area in the base formed by the offset substrate.

  • Publication number: 20080191620
Abstract: A light emitting device, with which the luminous efficiency is improved and the color non-uniformity of the emitted light is lessened. Specifically, a light emitting diode element is covered with a diffusing layer, with which a diffusing agent is added to a resin. A phosphor layer, with which a phosphor is added to a resin, is disposed on top of the diffusing layer. The light from the light emitting diode element is diffused by the diffusing layer. By exciting the phosphor layer with the light diffused by the diffusing layer and thereby making the phosphor layer emit light, the luminous efficiency is improved and the color non-uniformity is lessened.

  • Patent number: 6242752
Abstract: A translucent cover (9) is so provided as to cover a high pressure sodium lamp (11) adapted to radiate at least visible light and rays of light in the wavelength range of 300 nm to 400 nm. A photocatalytic film (13) which is capable of preventing generation of interference between visible light is formed on either one of or both the inner side and outer side of the translucent cover (9). The photocatalytic film (13) contains as the principal component titania (TiO2) of which the peak wavelength for visible light transmittance is nearly the same as the peak wavelength for visible light radiated from the high pressure sodium lamp (11). Ultraviolet light radiated from the high pressure sodium lamp (11) enhances oxidation and decomposition of substances performed by the photocatalytic film (13), thereby preventing grime and contaminants from adhering to the translucent cover (9).

  • Patent number: 6177768
Abstract: The electrodes of a discharge lamp are prevented from reaching damaging temperatures which tend to occur when the discharge lamp is near the end of its useful life. The combination of a discharge lamp and luminaire contribute to ensuring the discharge lamp remains unilluminated when nearing the end of its useful life to prevent high temperature damage. Load circuit characteristics are set to provide low release voltage and high short-circuit current during full-intensity illumination, and high release voltage and low short-circuit current during dimmed operation. The discharge lamp operating in a dimmed mode at the end of its useful life is switched to full-intensity illumination mode to ensure the discharge lamp becomes unilluminated. This configuration prevents high temperatures at the electrodes from damaging the glass bulb, base, socket and other components of the discharge lamp and luminaire.
