  • Patent number: 8063866
Abstract: A capacitor charged beforehand is discharged according to a light surrounding a display unit. A data is decreased similarly to the voltage between the electrodes of the capacitor. A trigger signal is outputted if the data becomes equal to or less than a threshold value. A clock signal whose cycle of changing levels gradually becomes long is generated. A count value is updated at each change of the clock signal's level and the updated count value is outputted. The count value is sampled when the trigger signal is outputted.

  • Patent number: 8030671
Abstract: A thin film transistor layer including a thin film transistor is formed at a liquid crystal layer side of a color filter layer on an array substrate. Since it becomes possible to form the color filter layer at a position on a relatively flat glass substrate, satisfactory characteristics of the color filter layer can be obtained. The color filter layer is unlikely to have influence on the thin film transistor layer, so that the yield can be improved.

  • Patent number: 8022899
Abstract: A precharge voltage Vp is applied in period A. The precharge voltage Vp is generated by applying a constant current Iw to a pixel driving transistor of a display panel and using gate terminal voltage of the driving transistor which passes the constant current Iw. The gate terminal potential is held in memory. When displaying images on a display panel, the gate terminal potential is read out of memory, and used as the precharge voltage Vp after arithmetic processing. By the application of the precharge voltage Vp, a source signal line is charged and discharged quickly so that an almost target tone current will flow through the driving transistor. Furthermore, a more accurate program current is written into the pixel during period B.

  • Patent number: 8018561
Abstract: Electrode slit portions are formed in a pixel electrode in a direction of crossing a slit for dividing a liquid crystal layer into a plurality of domains. A titanium oxide film is formed so as to be exposed to the liquid crystal layer side via the electrode slit portions, the titanium oxide film having a relative dielectric constant higher than that of an organic film formed at positions corresponding to the electrode slit portions. By the titanium oxide film, an electric field of each domain is set, angles between the director in the vicinity of the electrode slit portion and transmission axes of polarizing plates are made to approximately 45°, and a decrease in transmittance caused by the falling direction of the director can be suppressed. The transmittance and contrast ratio are secured, and simultaneously an excellent wide viewing angle range can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 7932880
Abstract: In order to charge and discharge parasitic capacitance of a source signal line sufficiently and program a predetermined current value into a pixel transistor, it is necessary to output a relatively large current from the source driver circuit. However, if such a large current is passed through the source signal line, the value of this current is programmed into the pixel, causing a larger than desired current to flow through an EL element. For example, if a 10 times larger current is used for programming, a 10 times larger current flows through the EL element, and thus the EL element illuminates 10 times more brightly. To obtain predetermined emission brightness, the time during which the current flows through the EL element can be reduced to 1/10 of one frame (1 F). This way, the parasitic capacitance of the source signal line can be charged and discharged sufficiently and the predetermined emission brightness can be obtained.
