    Abstract: An optical touch-sensitive device has the capability to determine touch locations of multiple simultaneous touch events. The touch events disturb optical beams propagating across the touch sensitive surface. With multi-touch events, a single beam can be disturbed by more than one touch event. In one aspect, a non-linear transform is applied to measurements of the optical beams in order to linearize the effects of multiple touch events on a single optical beam. In another aspect, the effect of known touch events (i.e., reference touches) is modeled in advance, and then unknown touch events are determined with respect to the reference touches.

    Abstract: A flexible container cover with an elastic gathering band around its edge is formed from a rectangular sheet of plastic film with recessed cut corners to form four flaps. The sheet is placed atop a mandrel having a rectangular flat top with eaves or undercut surfaces and four corner slots. Four hooks are positioned outside the slots so they underlie the cut-off corners of the sheet. An elastic band is stretched around the hooks and the flaps of the sheet. The hooks are moved inwardly into the slots to allow the segments of the band to pull and fold a middle portion of each flap inward. A set of tucker blades is then moved inward to push the folded portions of the flaps against side surfaces of the mandrel under the eaves. Four heat-sealing bars are moved up against the eaves to seal the flaps around the segments of the band to form hems.

    Abstract: A proximity switch for controlling lighting devices includes an oscillator operating at a nominal frequency. When a hand is positioned near a sensing antenna, the frequency of the oscillator decreases. The decrease in frequency is detected by a detection circuit which toggles a flip-flop. The output of the flip-flop controls a trigger circuit which provides a trigger input to a triac. When the trigger circuit is active, the triac conducts and provides power to an incandescent lamp. The power is alternatively toggled on and off each time the hand is brought into proximity to the sensing antenna.
