    Abstract: The present invention relates to a touch or proximity sensitive device, specifically one which controls characteristics such as the temperature and flow rate of water or other liquids. An apparatus for controlling a flow characteristic of a flowing liquid by a user, the apparatus comprising a two-dimensional control surface for sensing the proximity of a user in two dimensions, means for determining a position of the user, and means for controlling the characteristic of the liquid responsive to said determining.
