  • Patent number: 5228321
Abstract: A necked-in and flange portion is formed in the open end of a seamless can body by using a can end holder driven for rotation about its axis, an axially movable inner roll of a reduced diameter disposed adjacent the can end holder, and a spinning roll positioned axially stationary outside the can body. While the can body with the open end telescoped onto the can end holder and in contact with the inner roll is rotated together with the can end holder, the spinning roll is advanced toward the can end holder and forced into the open end, and simultaneously the can body is moved in an axial direction away from the can end holder together with the inner roll, to form the necked-in and flange portion.

  • Patent number: 4885897
Abstract: A method of making a hermetically sealed container is disclosed. In the method, a water vapor (40) is blown into a container body (1) that has been placed with a product such as solid foods or the like leaving a space portion (3). Immediately thereafter or immediately after an inert gas (51) has been blown into the container body, the container body is hermetically sealed. The container has a relatively low negative internal pressure which is controllable with a small range of variation. The water vapor (40) is generated by blowing a non-condensable gas such as air, nitrogen gas or the like at a constant flow rate into a water (13) which is controlled to a constant temperature. When the inert gas (51) is blown, only the surface and its vicinity of the product (4) is heated by blowing the water vapor (40).

  • Patent number: 4815626
Abstract: A pull-tab for an easy-to-open can container is mounted on a lid provided at an opening of a partially-open type container that contains a liquid such as a refreshing beverage. The pull-tab is fixed by a rivet at a predetermined portion of a removable portion surrounded by a score provided on the lid. A dish-like or bowl-like recessed portion is formed around the peripheral edge of a rivet insertion hole of the pull-tab. The peripheral edge of the rivet insertion hole is turned upward along the peripheral wall of the recessed portion to form a horizontally turned portion. A reinforcing edge is provided around the entire peripheral edge of the pull-tab with the exception of the distal end portion at a portion thereof at which the rivet insertion hole is provided. The length of this portion at which no reinforcing edge is provided is made smaller than the outer diameter of the recessed portion. Therefore, it is possible to efficiently prevent the pull-tab coming off the rivet when the container is opened.
