    Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the preparation of welded cans, which comprises forming a blank comprised of a surface-treated steel plate into a cylinder and passing a lap portion of the formed cylinder between a pair of electrode rollers through an electrode wire to effect electric resistance welding, wherein said surface-treated steel plate comprises a layer of metallic tin or a tin-iron alloy formed on the steel plate substrate in an amount of 0.05 to 1.0 g/m.sup.2 as calculated as metallic tin and a hydrated chromium oxide layer formed on said tin layer in an amount of 0.005 to 0.05 g/m.sup.2 as calculated as metallic chromium and electric resistance welding is carried out in an inert atmosphere in the state where an electrode wire having a plating layer of tin or a tin alloy having a thickness of 0.1 to 20 .mu.m is kept in close contact with the surface of said surface-treated steel plate.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an easily openable heat seal lid for sealing a vessel proper by forming a heat-sealed portion between the lid and the vessel proper, which comprises a laminate comprising at least an inner face member composed of a thermoplastic resin and a metal foil, wherein scores defining a portion to be opened are formed on the side inner than the portion to be heat-sealed so that the scores extend to the midway of the thickness direction of the metal foil, and said inner face member comprises at least one heat-sealable thermoplastic resin layer having an adhesion strength of at least 800 g/15 mm to the metal foil, a tear strength lower than 3.0 kg and a tensile modulus of at least 300 kg/cm.sup.2. In this heat seal lid, the resin layer can be broken sharply along the scores and opening can be accomplished very easily.

The outer diameter of the upper portion of the sleeve exceeds the outer diameter of the lower portion by an amount equal to twice the depth of the groove.

The device has a molding tool disposed above an anvil which is relatively movable towards and away from the tool by an elevator mechanism. The molding tool includes a center punch. An annular bushing is positioned externally of the center punch and is movable over a predetermined range with respect to the punch. Resilient means are provided for urging the bushing upwardly with respect to the punch and a lowering mechanism is included for moving the bushing downwardly against the force of the resilient means.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for inspecting empty cans entirely automatically includes a flange inspecting process and a drawing condition inspecting process. The flange and the drawing condition inspections are simultaneously carried out in the same inspecting station during the forcible rotation of the can. The flange portion is checked for craks and length, and the outer body surface is checked for the drawing conition respectively in a non-destructive and contactless manner by utilization of static electromagnetic inspection and light reflection inspection methods. A prestored reference value signal, which is compared with a converted electrical signal for the determination of whether cans are good or not, is a signal of a value calculated by a microcomputer on the basis of values which are sampled, equally divided, signal values corresponding to one rotation of a forcibly rotated standard good empty can.

An aspirating device applying a vacuum to the seating surface has an opening in the seating surface leading to a source of vacuum and providing a vacuum to effect seating and mating of the common curvature of the seating surface and the inside bottom surface of the cylindrical container to thereby enhance the stability of the cylindrical container on the holding spindle.

    Abstract: A closure cap having a liner adhered to a cap shell by a plurality of coating layers. Prize markings are printed on one of the coating layers and are positioned between the coating layers. The peel resistance in the interface between the coating layers is less than that between the topmost coating layer and the liner to assure that the prize markings will be transferred to the liner when the liner is peeled from the cap shell. The liner includes a starting portion which adheres to the topmost coating layer only slightly to facilitate easy removal of the liner from the cap shell.
