  • Patent number: 8502860
Abstract: An electronic control system, electronic control unit and an associated methodology for adapting three dimensional panoramic views of vehicle surroundings by predicting driver intent are provided. A plurality of cameras mounted on a vehicle generate images of a surrounding area of the vehicle. A visual sensor detects a three dimensional profile of an occupant of the vehicle. An electronic control unit generates a three dimensional panoramic view based on the images generated by the plurality of cameras, determines three dimensional locations and orientations of a plurality of body parts of the occupant of the vehicle based on the three dimensional profile detected by the visual sensor, and adapts the three dimensional panoramic view based on the determined three dimensional locations and orientations. A display unit displays the adapted three dimensional panoramic view.

  • Patent number: 8327916
Abstract: An apparatus for core gas removal in a low-pressure cylinder head die casting operation includes an upper die, a lower die, an ejector plate disposed above the upper die to eject a part that has been cast, a plurality of tight plugs fastened into cavities formed in the upper die, and a plurality of clean pins attached to the ejector plate, each clean pin corresponding to a location of one of the tight plugs. The clean pins and the tight plugs have matching geometries. The ejector plate lowers to eject a casted cylinder head from the upper die such that a portion of the clean pins extend axially into the tight plugs to clean core gas residue formed on inner walls of the tight plugs during the casting cycle.

  • Patent number: 8285571
Abstract: A rideshare system and associated methodology for recommending rideshares to prospective riders and drivers uses itineraries and personal affinities to make the recommendations. The rideshare system computes a cost value by comparing the search criteria submitted by a user to stored user profiles. Results of the comparison are displayed in order of highest match to lowest match, according to the cost values computed. Further, the system also adaptively updates the stored profiles according to rideshare history. Lastly, the system includes a real-time user localization unit to locate prospective riders and drivers in real time, making just in time or unplanned rideshares possible.

  • Patent number: 8135511
Abstract: An electronic control system, electronic control unit and an associated methodology for adapting a vehicle system are provided. A visual sensor detects a three dimensional profile of an occupant of a vehicle. An electronic control unit determines at least one of three dimensional locations and orientations of a plurality of body parts of the occupant of the vehicle, a body-volume of the occupant of the vehicle and body dynamics of the occupant of the vehicle based on the three dimensional profile detected by the visual sensor. The electronic control unit adapts a vehicle system based on at least one of the determined three dimensional locations and orientations, the determined body-volume and the determined body dynamics.

  • Patent number: 8098165
Abstract: A system, apparatus and associated methodology for interactively monitoring and reducing driver drowsiness use a plurality of drowsiness detection exercises to precisely detect driver drowsiness levels, and a plurality of drowsiness reduction exercises to reduce the detected drowsiness level. A plurality of sensors detect driver motion and position in order to measure driver performance of the drowsiness detection exercises and/or the drowsiness reduction exercises. The driver performance is used to compute a drowsiness level, which is then compared to a threshold. The system provides the driver with drowsiness reduction exercises at predetermined intervals when the drowsiness level is above the threshold.

  • Patent number: 8091296
Abstract: A storm collar includes a shield, an upper anchoring collar, support arms, and a lower anchoring collar. The upper anchoring collar secures the shield to an exhaust stack. The support arms are attached to the underside of the shield and the lower anchoring collar. Gaskets are placed between the joints of the storm collar pieces and between the exhaust stack for a tight fit. The angle of the support arms and the shield provide a compression fit based on the load supported by the shield. The storm collar protects the flashing and joints around an exhaust stack from damage caused by moisture.
