Patent number: 8254956Abstract: A positioning method, a tracker's terminal (13), a positioning arrangement and a computer software product for tracking an object (11a), such as a dog. The method uses GPS positioning. The GPS position information of the object (11a) is transmitted through either a circuit switched digital radio network (10b) or an analogue radio link to the tracker's terminal (13). The tracker's terminal includes a software application via which the received position information can, when desired, be transmitted though a packet switched network (10a) to at least one other tracker's terminal (22, 23).Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2009Date of Patent: August 28, 2012Assignee: Tracker OyInventor: Hannu Lohi

Patent number: 8155871Abstract: The invention relates to a location method, a locating device, a locating arrangement and a computer program for tracking an object, such as a dog. The method utilises GPS locating, the event time of which may be controlled by the user. In addition, the user may define a data transmission network via which location data are primarily communicated to the tracker's device. By means of the frequency of measurements and the data transmission network used, the power consumption of the locating device of the object being tracked is minimised.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2006Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: Tracker OyInventors: Hannu Lohi, Samuli Vanhala, Harri Piltonen

Publication number: 20110018708Abstract: The invention relates to a method for measuring and indicating a true direction of a tracked object. The invention also relates to an apparatus and a tracking system utilizing the method. The invention also relates to a direction determination circuitry and to a computer readable storage medium comprising computer readable code, which is utilized in the direction determination circuitry. In the method a radio-bearing device shows all the time on a display true directions wherefrom a radio-bearing have been taken. The direction of the maximum signal strength measurement is highlighted on the display.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2009Publication date: January 27, 2011Applicant: TRACKER OYInventors: Harri PILTONEN, Mikko TUUNANEN

Publication number: 20100131200Abstract: A method in which location information and bearing of the user of a positioning device are determined based on signals sent by positioning satellites. The user is instructed to act in a suitable way when the bearing is being determined. The method further determines a confidence parameter that indicates the reliability of the communicated bearing and is communicated to the user simultaneously with the bearing. The confidence parameter enables the user to estimate whether or not the communicated bearing information can be trusted. The confidence parameter can be determined from the number of positioning satellites connected to the satellite receiver and the determined traveling speed of the user of the positioning device, or from the dilution of precision provided by the GPS system. The confidence parameter gets a value “good”, when an equation is true, and a value “bad”, when the equation is false.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 18, 2008Publication date: May 27, 2010Applicant: TRACKER OYInventor: Hannu Lohi

Publication number: 20090201200Abstract: A positioning method, positioning arrangement, bearing device (11) and computer program product for use in a positioning arrangement one described. The invention, the location information of the object being tracked can be visualized to the tracker (10), although exact coordinate information is not available. A bearing device (11) including an electronic compass is utilized in the arrangement according to the invention. The information concerning the signal level of the transmitter of the device (13) being tracked, measured and detected by the bearing device (11), and the corresponding compass heading are detected, and both are presented on an electronic map on the tracker's device (12). By the arrangement according to the invention, it is also possible to combine bearings taken of two or more locations on the same map.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2007Publication date: August 13, 2009Applicant: TRACKER OYInventor: Hannu Lohi

Publication number: 20080163057Abstract: More than one object to be positioned can be set simultaneously in mobile satellite positioning devices, and these objects can be either fixed coordinate points or moving objects. The objects are shown as graphical symbols on the display of the positioning device. Positioning devices can be set in a map display mode, in which there is a map base depicting the area to be positioned visible on the display, or in an arrow display mode, in which there is a compass circle and a direction arrow pointing to the active object to be positioned visible on the display.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: TRACKER OYInventors: Hannu Lohi, Samuli Vanhala, Harri Piltonen

Patent number: 7183988Abstract: A directional antenna mechanism of a mobile radio tracking receiver, includes four antenna elements pivotably fastened to the body of the receiver. In use, the elements are turned to an operating position, in which they are pointed away from the body. After use, the elements can be turned to a transport position, in which they are placed inside the body in the direction of its longitudinal axis. At least two elements are connected to each other by a mechanism such that moving the first antenna element to the operating transport position also causes the second antenna element to move to the same position simultaneously. The mechanism includes a movable transmission rod inside the body, with toothings and toothed discs fastened to the ends of the elements, contacting the toothings. The rod is moved either manually by a lever fastened to the rod or by an actuator arranged inside the body.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2005Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Tracker OYInventor: Harri Piltonen
