Abstract: A modular rack system, for adjustably attaching equipment to a vehicle, includes a base mountable on a side wall of the vehicle. The rack system has a first wall that is disposed on and upwardly emanating from the top surface of the base that defines a lower seat. One end of a vertical member resides in the lower seat and is secured thereto. The other end of the vertical member resides in an upper seat defining by a downwardly depending wall from a saddle and is secured thereto. The first and second walls laterally stabilize the vertical member relative to the base and saddle to permit the base to be mounted to a side wall of a vehicle and a top rail to be secured to the saddle without the use of gussets or cross-braces.

  • Publication number: 20080080948
Abstract: An attachment mount is provided to securely attach an accessory to a panel, such as a vehicle panel. The mount includes a base that may receive a rail and a toggle guide. A bolt is provided and passes through the rail, the base, and the toggle guide for attachment of a toggle at its end. The toggle may pivot or move into a insertion configuration and be pushed through an opening in a panel to which attachment is desired. Once the toggle has passed through the panel opening, a biasing element, such as a spring, may urge the toggle to move to an engaging configuration. As the bolt is rotated, the toggle may then be guided by the toggle guide and be drawn into proximity of the base and to engage the panel. Complementary structure on the base and the toggle act to deform the panel, thereby creating a strong attachment.

  • Patent number: 7210510
Abstract: A work bench includes an elongated main body including a track portion having first and second spaced apart rail members. A tool mount assembly includes a tool mount having a support structure that supports a tool and a releasable fastener mounted to the support structure to releasably interlock with the track portion so as to releasably mount the tool mount to the track portion. The fastener includes a handle and a retaining member movable along with the handle such that manual movement of the handle to (a) a released position positions the retaining member so that the tool mount can be engaged with or disengaged from the track portion, and (b) a locked position moves the retaining member into forced engagement with the spaced apart rail members to secure the tool mount to the track portion.

  • Patent number: 6547311
Abstract: A releasable and adjustable clamp-on track assembly is provided for releasably and adjustably attaching an overhead rack, or the like, to the walls of a vehicle, such as a pickup truck. The clamp-on track assembly includes a track having an elongate body mountable on the side wall of the pickup truck by a clamp member. One end of the clamp member engages the elongate body, while the opposite end of the clamp is supported by the underside of the side wall of the truck. The clamp may be slidably received within a slot formed in the elongate body so that the clamp can be positioned anywhere along the length of the track, as desired. An adjustable fastener may additionally be provided which, when tightened, secures the clamp to the underside of the side wall of the truck in order to mount the track assembly.

  • Patent number: 5848743
Abstract: A vehicle roof rack includes a track having an elongate tubular body with a thin wall which defines substantially the entire outer perimeter of the tubular body. The thin wall has a top wall section with an upwardly opening channel formed therein and a top wall section opposite the bottom wall section. The roof rack further includes a pair of support brackets for supporting the track in an elevated position above the roof of the vehicle. Each support bracket has a pair of fasteners for releasably attaching the support bracket to the track and a pair of hook elements for releasably attaching the support brackets to a gutter of the vehicle. At least one sliding fastening assembly is releasably attachable to the upwardly opening channel of the top wall section of the track.

  • Patent number: 5836365
Abstract: A portable work bench includes a track having a structural body, and four collapsible legs for supporting the track in an elevated position above a surface. The work bench further includes a dual purpose accessory releasably attachable to the track. The dual purpose accessory has a body, a rail member for slidably mounting the body on the track so that the body is movable along the length of the track, a locking member for locking the body at a desired position along the length of the track, and a dual purpose accessory having two attaching formations for attaching the member to the body of the accessory in a first position in which the member supports an item placed thereon and in a second position in which the member engages the item. A tape measuring device having a case and a reeled tape can be secured to the body of the accessory such that tape is extended from the case and releasably attached to the primary accessory for measuring the cut off length of the item to be cut.
