Patent number: 7326005Abstract: An air powered storage device is provided that is operative to temporarily store pneumatic carriers within a pneumatic carrier system. Generally, the device includes a pneumatic tube that is sized to permit the passage of pneumatic carriers. A gate member is selectively positionable into and out of an internal bore of the pneumatic tube to impede movement of pneumatic carriers there through. The device further includes a blower having a first fluid inlet disposed on a first side of the gate member and a fluid outlet disposed on a second side of the gate member. The fluid inlet and outlet are fluidly interconnected to the internal bore of the pneumatic tube such that the blower is selectively operable to generate a fluid flow through the internal bore between the fluid outlet and the fluid inlet. Such fluid flow may be utilized to reinitiate movement of a stopped carrier.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2006Date of Patent: February 5, 2008Assignee: Translogic CorporationInventors: Raymond Anthony Castro, Jim Podracky, Robert Trenconsky

Patent number: 7328084Abstract: A system and method provides for the identification and monitoring of carriers within a pneumatic carrier system. Each carrier which is to be employed within the system includes an identification device such as a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip which has stored thereon identification information for the carrier. Positioned throughout the system are communications devices such as antennas and readers which are employed to read and/or write identification information on the chip. When a carrier is put in the system, a destination location can be associated with the particular carrier ID. This associated information is then employed to, among many things, monitor and confirm identity of the carrier as it moves to its destination.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2006Date of Patent: February 5, 2008Assignee: Translogic CorporationInventors: Kenneth Michael Hoganson, Gregory Richard Chaney, Bennett Charles Hinnen

Patent number: 5980164Abstract: A carrier for use in a pneumatic tube transport system includes first and second shell members, at least a first hinge for pivotally interconnecting the first and second shell members such that the shell members can move relative to one another between open and closed positions, and at least a first seal band interconnected to at least one of fore and aft portions of the first and second shell members. At least the first seal band includes a plurality of fibers mountable on a first backing strip, the fibers having a modulus of elasticity of at least about 1.times.10.sup.5 psi, being mounted perpendicularly relative to the first backing strip, and uniformly distributed on the first backing strip.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1998Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: TransLogic CorporationInventor: Daniel A. Patent number: 5864485Abstract: A pneumatic carrier system is provided for distribution and transport of materials between different locations. The system includes a plurality of carriers for conveyance of materials and a control system for controlling the movement of the carriers in the system. The control system uses information associated with the carriers and the status of areas of the system to detect gridlock conditions which inhibit the movement of carriers. The system also includes bypass locations which are used to resolve detected gridlock conditions.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1996Date of Patent: January 26, 1999Assignee: TransLogic CorporationInventors: Jeffrey Scott Hawthorne, David Michael Dillon, Gregory R. Patent number: 5655677Abstract: A carrier vessel for a pneumatic tube transport system provides substantially leak-free containment of fluids transported therein. The vessel includes first and second shell members having opposing engagement surfaces extending substantially about a perimeter thereof. A sealing member disposed adjacent one of the engagement surfaces is compressed between the engagement surfaces when the vessel is closed to provide substantially fluid-tight seal between the first and second shell members. The vessel includes removable wear bands connected to the shell members, a hinge interconnector assembly for connecting the shell members together at one of their longitudinal sides and latch assemblies for releasably connecting them together at an opposite longitudinal side.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1996Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Assignee: Translogic CorporationInventors: Daniel A. Patent number: 5642767Abstract: A fire door system is disclosed wherein the fire door is up closing in that it includes an up closing partition. Further, the fire door is fail-safe in that in the absence of continuous controls indicating that the fire door should remain open, counterweights to the partition urge the partition upwardly for closing the fire door. Additionally, the fire door includes pneumatic chambers that interact with the movement of the counterweights so that as the partition is closing, a build-up of pressure in the chambers slows the rate of closing so that the fire door closes without slamming even though the total time taken to close the fire is rapid. The fire door is particularly useful for preventing the spread of fire and fire byproducts from one side of a fire inhibiting wall to the other side through openings such as those provided for carrier transport systems.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1995Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: TransLogic CorporationInventor: Gopi Nair

Patent number: 5386364Abstract: A method for using an obstruction detection device, residing on an automated conveyance vehicle, as an input device for supplying a plurality of predetermined control codes to a controller for the vehicle. Each code is related to predetermined vehicle behavior regulated by the controller. Such codes are used for commencing forward movement, commencing backward movement and stopping the vehicle. Furthermore, included within the collection is a subset of codes to be input exclusively by maintenance personnel. That is, the codes within the subset are highly unlikely to occur in the normal course of vehicle operation.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1993Date of Patent: January 31, 1995Assignee: TransLogic CorporationInventor: Tommy N. Patent number: 4630216Abstract: A computer-controlled conveying system is provided for use in transporting materials between different locations. The system includes a plurality of carriages for receiving and holding the materials and a track along which the carriages move in transporting the materials. Each of the carriages has a unique identifier, which is used by a system controller to monitor and control the movement of the carriage. A number of transfer units, and corresponding transfer unit controllers, are provided along the track. The transfer unit controllers communicate with a system controller and, in conjunction with the transfer units and information received from the system controller, act to provide the desired path for end of the carriages.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1984Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Translogic CorporationInventors: Tommy N.
