    Abstract: A recycling process for zinc-rich solid waste containing zinc oxide, Cu oxides and impurities normally present in brass, in which a mixture is formed containing the waste with a finely divided solid reducing agent and a binder, and the mixture is compacted as agglomerates with open pores. The agglomerates are added into a treatment reactor containing a bath of liquid copper or brass metal, in which the zinc and copper oxides are reduced, to obtain in the treatment reactor after the reduction, a new brass in liquid form and a new waste. The new liquid brass is transferred into a fusion and casting furnace, in which its composition is optionally adjusted, and the new liquid brass is cast to form a product. Any waste present in the treatment reactor and the casting furnace are recycled using this process.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for manufacturing a finished product which consists at least partially of a copper nickel and tin based alloy which has undergone spinodal decomposition. A liquid bath of the Cu Ni Sn based alloy is prepared containing also titanium and possibly lead. A semi-finished product is formed by spray-deposition of this alloy onto a backing then transformed with an annealing stage followed by rapid tempering. The product obtained after transformation of the semi-finished product is subjected to a heat annealing treatment in order to carry out spinodal decomposition of the part of the said product which is constituted by Cu Ni Sn based alloy, to obtain a finished product. A semi-finished product or product is obtained by this method. Connectors and machinable products based on Cu Ni Sn and of high and homogeneous hardness are manufactured.

In order to reduce the leaks of viscous fluid through the clearances between the rotor and the stator, which clearances are necessary for operation of the apparatus, the drive fluid used in the groove of the rotor to cause forward movement of the blank is of a higher viscosity than the fluid in the isostatic chamber in which extrusion pressure is present. The pumping power is acccordingly greatly reduced and it is possible to avoid the use of expensive and delicate pressure multiplying means.

    Abstract: A process and article of manufacture relating to drawn rods made of lead brass which has been subjected to at least one intermediate annealing treatment, the invention involves annealing at a temperature of between 425.degree. C. and a temperature which is 10.degree. lower than the solidus point for a period of between 1/100 of a second and one minute. The rods thus obtained contain uncoalesced lead particles having a dimension of less than 1.5 micrometers and contain at least 8000 of these lead particles per square millimeter and for each percent of lead. The rods produce fine shavings during machining and do not cause blocking on breakage. The present lead brass rods are particularly useful for automatic screw thread cutting.
