  • Patent number: 11380477
Abstract: An air core dry type power reactor comprises upper and lower spider units and a coil including a plurality of cylindrically shaped winding layers including an outermost layer. The reactor further comprises a double wall sound shield including concentric a first roving cylinder and a second roving cylinder, the first roving cylinder positioned against the outermost layer but detached from the coil by a first airgap between the outermost layer and the first roving cylinder to reduce a structure-borne transmission of an acoustic energy or attached by ductsticks to the coil. The second roving cylinder is placed at a distance from the first roving cylinder to form an acoustic cavity between two double walls of the first roving cylinder and the second roving cylinder. The double wall sound shield further including a plurality of sound absorbent panels to attenuate resonances of the acoustic cavity between the two double walls of the first roving cylinder and the second roving cylinder.

  • Patent number: 10959344
Abstract: An outdoor electrical apparatus (10) and methodology for manufacturing such apparatus are provided. The apparatus includes an electrical device (12), and an encapsulation housing system including a main encapsulant (11a) and an outer housing (11b). The main encapsulant may be arranged to encapsulate the electrical device, and the outer housing may be arranged to selectively encase surfaces of the main encapsulant based on an extent to which the surfaces of the main encapsulant otherwise would be subject to outdoor exposure. The main encapsulant comprises a bisphenol epoxy resin, and the outer housing comprises a cycloaliphatic epoxy resin to provide weatherability and resistance to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

  • Patent number: 10366824
Abstract: An air core reactor for use in an electric power transmission and distribution system or in an electric power system of an electrical plant is provided. The air core reactor comprises an electrically insulated support structure, a coil of windings configured to operate at a potential and isolated to ground or other potentials by the electrically insulated support structure and an insulator mounting bracket that attaches directly to the coil. The insulator mounting bracket is configured as an interface between the coil and the electrically insulated support structure.

  • Patent number: 9406433
Abstract: An air core reactor (47) including a plurality of concentric conductor winding packages (44, 46) wherein a force (F+) generated by the interaction of current (+) flowing through one package and a magnetic field (42) generated by the reactor is out of phase (F?) with a force generated in another package, thereby effectively mitigating audible sound generated by power operation of the reactor. In one embodiment (FIG. 3), the out of phase force may be generated when at least one winding (38c, 37d) of one package (38) is configured to conduct a current (?) that is at least 10 degrees out of phase with a current (+) conducted by another package (40) or other windings (38a, 38b) of the reactor (36).

  • Publication number: 20150170818
Abstract: An air core, dry type, power reactor (10) of the type having multiple concentrically positioned winding layers (12) extending along a central axis and above arms (24) of a first spider unit (16) when the reactor is horizontally positioned with respect to a horizontal ground plane, the winding layers (12) arranged in spaced-apart relation providing air gaps (20) between the winding layers allowing air to flow along the winding layers. A deflector (40) is positioned between the winding layers (12) and the ground plane to receive air from wind blowing toward the reactor (10) and guide the air in an upward direction from the deflector (40) and along the gaps (20).

  • Patent number: 8830655
Abstract: A capacitor (20A-E) formed as a roll of inner and outer electrode strips (21, 23) alternating with inner and outer dielectric strips (22, 24). Each of the dielectric strips (22, 24) is shorter than an inwardly adjacent one of the electrode strips (21, 23) at a radially outer end thereof (21 E, 23E). This exposes the radially outer end of each electrode strip on respectively different portions of an outer side surface (26, 28) of the capacitor. The exposed ends of the electrode strips may be arranged on opposite sides of the capacitor, such that stacking the capacitors interconnects them either in parallel, in series, or in combinations thereof in different embodiments.

  • Patent number: 6683531
Abstract: A coupling device for providing a communications link for RF broadband data signals to a power line is disclosed. The coupling device comprises a high-pass filter element connected to the power line via a first port. The filter element allows RF broadband data signals to pass while low frequency signals are substantially attenuated. A second port connected to the high-pass filter element provides the RF broadband data signals to a RF broadband data signal line at a customer's premise. A drain coil connected to the high-pass filter element and connected to a ground provides grounding for low frequency signals but prevents the RF broadband data signals from being grounded. The second port and the drain coil are protected from power surges by a protective device connected in parallel to the drain coil. The coupling device is inexpensive to manufacture, essentially maintenance free, and easy to install.
