Abstract: A vapor barrier coating solution for polymeric articles is provided which contains a selected layered silicate dispersed in a cationic aqueous metal polysilicate, wherein the weight fraction layered silicate of total inorganic solids in the dry coating ranges from above 0 to about 99 percent.Preferably the layered silicate is vermiculite and the polysilicate is lithium polysilicate. Methods for producing and using this coating solution are also included.

Abstract: A method for coating polymeric substrate articles with a barrier coating that imparts improved vapor, gas or aroma permeability characteristics to the coated substrate, without efflorescence or hazing of the dried coating. The method employs a lithium-potassium copolysilicate of the formula (L.sub.2 O).sub.x (K.sub.2 O).sub.1-x (SiO.sub.2).sub.y, wherein y is between 1 and 10, if x is less than 1; or y is greater than 4.6, if x is 1.

Abstract: A compensator 11 comprises a housing 14 and a sliding ram 13, which is displaceable along a sliding seat 17. The sliding ram 13 includes a flow channel portion 21, which transitions into an elbow bend 30, which, in the operating state, i.e., when hot polymer melt flows through the compensator, is congruent with a further flow channel portion 20. The two flow channel portions 20, 21 have flanges 28 and 29 at their end faces for the installation of the compensator 11 at a bend in a melt line through which a polymer felt flows, to compensate for linear expansions of the melt line due to the increased temperature.
Abstract: A vapor barrier coating solution for poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) polymeric articles contains a metal polysilicate and transparent nanocrystalline titanium dioxide. The coating reduces interference between light reflected from the top surface of a coated PET polymeric article and the interface between the dried coating and said PET polymeric article. The coated articles are also provided.
Abstract: Multilayer polyolefin film having a core layer of a propylene polymer and an outer polyolefin layer on the core layer, the outer polyolefin layer including a coefficient of friction reducing amount of a particulate, partially cross-linked, polysiloxane. Non-cross-linked polysiloxane in the particulate polysiloxane is released when the particles are subjected to mechanical stress which causes the slip of the films to increase as they are placed under increasing mechanical stress.
Abstract: A polyolefinic multilayer film comprises at least three layers BIT, wherein B is a polyolefinic base layer, I is an intermediate layer, and T is a top layer applied to the intermediate layer I. The intermediate layer I comprises at least 75% by weight, based on the weight of the intermediate layer I, of heat sealable polyolefins. The top layer T comprises at least 75% by weight, based on the weight of the top layer T, of heat sealable polyolefins. The minimum sealing temperature of the polyolefin of top layer T is at least 100.degree. C. and is greater than the minimum sealing temperature of the polyolefin of the intermediate layer I. The thickness of the top layer T is less than 0.4 .mu.m.

Abstract: Multilayer polymeric film comprising a base layer of a propylene polymer, a non-voided intermediate layer on the base layer, and a heat sealable polymer layer on the intermediate layer, the non-voided intermediate layer having an internal cohesive strength less than the bond strength of the intermediate layer to either the base layer or the heat sealable layer and less than the internal cohesive strengths of either the base layer or the heat sealable layer. Such films enable peelable heat seals to be formed by rupture of the intermediate layer due to its lower internal cohesive strength compared with the core layer or the heat seal layer.
Abstract: A tenter clip is fastened on a double-T web support of a film stretching machine and has a flexible, vertically clamped guide strip, against which horizontal running rollers bear. Each of these running rollers is equipped with a covering for dust protection. The tenter clip comprises a clamping body and a rolling part. The three horizontal running rollers and the vertical running roller of the clamping body are covered by a protective hood, the shape of which is matched to the geometry of the running rollers.
