  • Patent number: 6194078
Abstract: A hardened wooden flooring product is produced by impregnating wooden flooring blanks with a hardener while the wooden flooring blanks are in a bundle, wherein the bundled hardened wooden flooring blanks have improved separation characteristics following completion of the impregnation treatment. The flooring product is made by assembling a plurality of wooden flooring product blanks into a bundle of blanks in surface-to-surface contact with each other and enclosing the wooden flooring blanks in a pressure vessel. The pressure vessel is evacuated and an effective quantity of a hardening composition for being impregnated into the wooden flooring blanks is introduced into the pressure vessel. An effective quantity of a polyethylene glycol composition is introduced into the pressure vessel. The wooden flooring blanks are soaked in the hardening composition and the polyethylene glycol composition for a predetermined period of time.

  • Patent number: 6189196
Abstract: A shaft assembly including an inner hub having a centrally-disposed bore therethrough and an outer surface for carrying a first member concentrically thereon for rotation therewith, an outer hub having a centrally-disposed bore therethrough and an outer surface for carrying a second member thereon for rotation therewith. The bore of the outer hub is adapted for receiving the inner hub concentrically therein for rotation therewith. An outer pressure-expansible sleeve is provided for being concentrically-mounted within the bore of said outer hub and pressurized for locking the outer hub onto the inner hub. An inner pressure-expansible sleeve is concentrically-positioned in the bore of the inner hub and pressurized for locking the inner hub onto a rotatable spindle, whereby the inner hub and outer hub and the respective members mounted thereon are locked in fixed, concentric relation relative to each other and to the rotatable spindle.

  • Patent number: 6156402
Abstract: A wooden flooring strip having a wooden flooring strip, comprising a top surface and a base surface opposed to the top surface, the top surface and the base surface defining between them a predetermined thickness wood flooring material. The predetermined thickness wood flooring material includes a top surface zone adjacent the top surface and a base surface zone adjacent the base surface. The base surface zone has longitudinally-extending wood fibers which have been broken to an extent sufficient to relieve tension on the base surface and thereby increase the flexibility of the flooring strip for more closely adhering to a sub-floor. The top surface zone has longitudinally-extending wood fibers which have been broken to an extent sufficient to relieve tension on the top surface of the flooring strip and to equalize tension on the wood fibers adjacent both the top surface and base surface of the flooring strip.

  • Patent number: 6148884
Abstract: A method of producing a hardwood flooring product, including the steps of processing a strip of raw wood into a blank having a predetermined thickness and width, and top and bottom surfaces defining parallel planes relative to each other, and splitting the blank along the width of the blank from one side to the other to form two low profile flooring strips having the same width as the blank and a thickness less than one-half the thickness of the blank. The splitting step includes the steps of providing first and second circular saw blades mounted on spaced-apart vertical axes for rotation in a single plane intermediate and parallel to the planes of the top and bottom surfaces of the blank and positioning the blank on conveying means upstream from the saw blades with the plane of rotation of the saw blades intermediate and parallel to the planes of the top and bottom surfaces of the blank for movement of the blank from an upstream position to a downstream position relative to the saw blades.

  • Patent number: 5727354
Abstract: A fastening system for laths made of wood or similar material, serving to form a floor. The system makes it possible to fasten the laths so that they are juxtaposed without damaging them by using tongues in which bearings, provided with teeth, have been stamped. These tongues are placed on the subfloor and are either fastened directly, or secured in place by gravity using flexible rubber supports and alignment laths securing them at an equal distance from one another, thereby not damaging the subflooring. This fastening system makes it possible to easily install and remove laths and is very well adapted for its use with prevarnished wooden laths.

  • Patent number: 5368486
Abstract: A system for merchandising and selecting pre-fabricated cabinets for installation in a living space. Comprising the system are informational display and selection charts on which a unique code indicia, particularly color coded, is assigned to each cabinet unit. Following a scaled plan layout of the cabinet area in an intended living space for which installation is contemplated, the selected units can be readily retrieved from a merchandising display on which the various units are clearly identified by their codes.

  • Patent number: 5057977
Abstract: A pull-out lighted display includes a plurality of vertically oriented modules arranged side-by-side in a housing having an open front. Each module is removable from and retractable into the housing independently of the other modules and includes first and second opposed panels, connected to define a substantially enclosed casing. Each of the panels is adapted for displaying merchandise and a graphic depicting the merchandise. A light source is disposed within the casing for backlighting the graphics disposed on the opposed panels. Each module is mounted for rotation about a vertical axis when the module is removed from the housing to expose either or both of the panels for viewing.

  • Patent number: 4091522
Abstract: A hinge of the semi-concealed, wrap-around type is provided with a slot extending transversely to the hinge axis so that with the cabinet door assembled to the door leaf of the hinge, the frame leaf of the hinge (which in its finally installed position seats on the edge of the frame) can be shifted to and temporarily secured in an angular orientation and forwardly of its finally installed position. In this position most of the parts of the frame which are ultimately covered by the frame leaf are exposed for a surface coating operation, and the door itself is in a position generally corresponding to a partly open position to facilitate the application of the coating to the inside face of the door. After the coating operation is completed the frame leaf is shifted to its finally installed position and secured to the cabinet frame.
