Abstract: Systems and methods for providing broadband communication to and from locations in hostile environments, such as mines, pits, quarries, wells, boreholes, and rigs, for example, are disclosed. According to a first aspect of the present application, a system is disclosed for providing broadband communication via power cabling. The system may comprise one or more broadband communication devices for modulating, demodulating, reconditioning, repeating, transmitting, and receiving a signal via a power cable. The system may further comprise one or more broadband communication devices operatively connected to mining electrical distribution system components and mining equipment to provide broadband communication amongst the components, equipment, and other broadband communication devices within and outside the mine facility via the power cable.
