Abstract: A method and system of providing a second broadcast signal from a first broadcast signal is described. The method includes receiving a broadcast signal containing media content and data content and selecting, from the data content, a first portion containing control and configuration and a second portion containing replacement content. The method further includes converting the first portion and the second portion into a multicast internet protocol stream and processing the replacement content as a second broadcast signal using the control and configuration information. The system includes a transceiver that receives a broadcast signal, selects a first portion and a second portion of the data content, and converts the first portion of the data content and the second portion of the data content into a multicast internet protocol stream. The system further includes a gateway device that processes the replacement content using the control and configuration information.

Abstract: A system for selectively controlling the distribution of media content to at least one client device over a plurality of distribution channels is provided. The system includes one or more broadcast management processors configured to receive feedback data including a usage metric corresponding to at least one of a characteristic associated with the at least one client device and a characteristic associated with at least one of the plurality of distribution channels. The broadcast management processor is further configured to determine an alternate data rate associated with at least one of the plurality of distribution channels based on the received usage metric, and generate at least one distribution control signal indicative of the alternate data rate.

Abstract: Provided is an enhanced television system and method including a television display in communication with a broadcast enhancement pathway via a first communication interface of the television display and with a video connection via a second communication interface of the television display. The television display receives and displays uncompressed video data from a digital video stream carried over the video connection from a video source and enhancement data from the broadcast enhancement pathway. The digital video stream includes embedded base programming identification metadata. The television display receives the enhancement data from the broadcast enhancement pathway without the enhancement data passing through the video source; and extracts a base identification tag from the embedded base programming identification metadata. The enhancement data received from the broadcast enhancement pathway associated with the base identification tag is combined with the digital video stream.

Abstract: Provided is an enhanced television system and method including a television receiver in communication with a broadcast reception tuner. The television receiver is configured to receive and display video data from a video stream and enhancement data from the reception tuner. The video stream includes embedded base programming identification metadata, and the television receiver is further configured to extract a base identification tag from the embedded base programming identification metadata, and combine enhancement data received from the reception tuner associated with the base identification tag with the video stream. The video stream may then be displayed.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program for providing a cross table analysis display in a digital broadcast environment, are discussed. The method includes providing at least two metadata tables of a broadcast stream, performing a cross table analysis on the metadata tables to determine consistency between the metadata tables, and displaying the result of the cross table analysis of the metadata tables using a graphical user interface.

Abstract: This invention provides technology (including apparatus, method, software, and/or data structures) to broadcast data from one or more content providers via one or more broadcast channels to one or more content recipients. This technology meets the different needs of the three major stakeholders—the content providers, the broadcasters, and the content recipients. The technology provides support for identifying the data to be broadcast, setting the broadcast schedule, getting the data inserted into the broadcast stream, extracting it from the broadcast stream at the receiver, and many ancillary activities such as compression, error correction, bandwidth management, bandwidth usage reporting, and content filtering at the receiver.

Abstract: The invention provides technology to generate a graphical depiction on a video display device (VDD) for a stream of packets. Such a graphical depiction can take the form of a matrix of geometric shapes, e.g., squares, each geometric shape representing a packet. Each geometric shape can have an appearance that is indicative of what type the corresponding packet is. Colors can be assigned to the geometric shapes to denote the types of the corresponding packets, respectively. Such technology can also generate a graphical depiction on the VDD of a legend explaining color and packet type relations. Each color in the legend can be depicted in the form of the geometric shape, and each geometric shape can be operable as a pointing-device-clickable button so that, in response to a user clicking on one of the geometric shapes, an interface can be generated by which the color assigned to the geometric shape can be changed by the user.
