Patent number: 8763345Abstract: The invention provides load-resisting segments (e.g., panels or frames for openings) for transmitting loads through a building structure. In the context of a wall, the load-resisting segments transmit shear loads downward to structural elements below the wall, such as to a building foundation. The load-resisting segments may comprise a truss configuration, i.e., an assembly of members forming a rigid framework. Each load-resisting segment can include web members and pairs of truss plates secured to sides of the segment to secure connections of the web members to each other and to other members. The wall segments can include beam-separation blocks that reduce truss plate failure by spacing apart the ends of two web members bearing against a chord or post to position the intersection point of the load paths of the web members with the load path of the chord or post.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2012Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: Trussed, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth M. Patent number: 6158189Abstract: An engineered or manufactured elongate wooden I-beam of the type having continuous upper and lower flange sections and a central web section therebetween is provided with a rectangular opening in the web along the span of the beam. A rectangular and open reinforcing frame constructed from at least four wooden pieces is securely positioned in the opening and is exteriorly dimensioned so that the height of the frame corresponds to the distance between the opposed interfaces of the upper and lower flange sections and the width of the frame is no less than the distance between the spaced apart web sections. This reinforced opening facilitates the passage of ductwork or the like laterally therethrough. Employing apertured I-beams of the foregoing description also facilitates a structural beam and bridging assembly where an elongate wooden bridging element can be employed by extending through and being interconnected to the frames of adjacent pairs of apertured joists.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1999Date of Patent: December 12, 2000Assignee: Alpa Roof Trusses Inc.Inventor: Wing Cheong Lau

Patent number: 6006485Abstract: A building construction assembly comprises a plurality of vertical columns that cooperate with a plurality of horizontal beams to collectively define a substantially planar frame border of a building. The vertical columns are in the form of upright trusses having a first upstanding member formed with a pair of angle irons. Each of the angle irons has a first projecting leg and a second projecting leg. The first projecting legs extend inwardly relative to the border in spaced parallel relation and the second projecting legs extend in opposite directions along a common line. A support clip is attached to the first upstanding member for supporting an associated horizontal beam in such a position that the outer facing surfaces of the horizontal beam and the first upstanding member defines the substantially planar border. The support clip is defined by a plate for supporting the associated horizontal beam and a load-bearing flange for retaining the horizontal beam.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1995Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: KY Truss, Inc.Inventors: Bobby E. Patent number: 5269106Abstract: A modular ground deployable membrane supporting building structure and arched truss member therefor. The building structure incorporates a plurality of truss members supportable vertically in side-by-side arrangement within a ground anchor connectable at each end of each truss member. Each truss member is comprised of a plurality of frame sections each connectable in aligned abutting end-to-end relation. Each frame section is comprised of inner and outer channel members having a unique U-shaped cross section facilitating cross member connection to secure a spaced parallel relation of the channel members, flexible membrane retention and improved strength and reduced deployment time. An improved membrane tensioning arrangement and ground anchor structure facilitating pivotal deployment of each assembled truss member are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1991Date of Patent: December 14, 1993Assignee: Fast Truss, Inc.Inventors: Robert Stafford, Tom Ruprecht, Cary Rapoport

Patent number: 4084498Abstract: A floor truss making apparatus having a pair of slightly curved rails, each with a plurality of positioning pads for retaining elongated truss plates forming the top and bottom of the truss, end truss plates for the end of the truss, and angle truss plates which are disposed at an acute angle between the elongated top and bottom truss plates. A pad is provided at each of the truss joints. The pads are adjustably fixed to the rails and the rails are adjustable with respect to each other so that a wide size range of trusses can be constructed with the apparatus. Adjustable nail plate positioning means are provided on each pad to properly locate and hold the nail plates under the truss. The nail plates are also placed on top of the assembled trusses. A gantry roller press rolls over the top of the truss (or other pressure means are provided) to at least partially force both nail plates into the truss plates.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1976Date of Patent: April 18, 1978Assignee: Ottawa Roof Truss, Inc.Inventor: Austin S.
