  • Patent number: 11866968
Abstract: A tie bar and guide assembly for casement windows having a roll form tie bar that snaps on to the tie bar guide without extending through it. The tie bar has locating openings that engage tabs on the tie bar guide to locate and secure the guide prior to installation. The tabs are depressed and disengaged when fasteners are used to secure the tie bar assembly to the window frame. The tie bar can include rivet locking points located close to the top and bottom of the tie bar to provide better security and increased stability for preventing water and air infiltration. The rivet locking points can be adjustable to optimize the fit of the window sash within the frame. The snap-on design reduces the overall height of the tie bar assembly thereby enabling a closer fit of the sash within the frame and reducing the required width of the window frame needed to accommodate the locking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 11692381
Abstract: A sash limiter assembly for limiting the distance a casement window can be opened. In a jamb mounted version, the limiter is mounted in one constant location on the jamb rather than multiple locations on the sill which results in the opening distance being essentially the same for all window widths and all hinge types. In both the jamb mounted version and a sill mounted version, a hexalobular or other security screw can be used to retain a limiting arm to a stud attached to a bracket, or a stud attached to a slider which slides on a track to inhibit unauthorized removal of the limiter arm.

  • Publication number: 20230103533
Abstract: A tie bar fabricate from extruded or formed polymer material available in bulk rolls, and methods of fabrication for a tie bar assembly. The tie bar is custom cut from the bulk material to any desired length at a window assembly line, and is cut with saddles and apertures that match the locations of window locking points and drive locations to conform with window designs on the fly. Standard locking points and drive pins are fitted onto the tie bar in locations as needed to fit particular configurations, and are slidable in standard c-shaped channels. The polymer material used for the tie bar is flexible and resilient, thereby lending itself to use for rounded window designs, without having any specific preformed length, locking point location, or shape.

  • Publication number: 20210293062
Abstract: A casement window lock and tie bar assembly including a flexible guide pre-formed with an arcuate deflection. The guide receives a tie bar having a c-shaped cross-section. The arcuate deflection of the guide causes the guide to be frictionally held in an initial position on the longitudinal axis of tie bar. When fasteners are tightened to attach the guide to a window frame, the guide is flattened to enable the tie bar to freely slide on the guide.

  • Patent number: 10787853
Abstract: An integrated casement window operator and lock, including a gear mechanism and an arm assembly, the arm defining a rack portion and an adjacent arcuate gear portion, the arm mounted to the housing with a pinion gear engaged with the rack portion and the arcuate gear portion, the pinion gear defining a star-shaped aperture therethrough and a handle with a square-shaped shaft portion received in the star-shaped aperture of the gear. The handle is selectively rotatable to shift the arm between a window fully closed position and a window fully open position, wherein an anti-backdrive mechanism is provided to inhibit backdriving of the arm in both the window fully closed window fully open positions.

  • Patent number: 10648207
Abstract: A casement window opening control device including a sash sub-assembly and a frame sub-assembly. The device is self-locating by aligning the bottom end of each sub-assembly with physical features of the window. This saves time and effort in installation by not requiring any measurements to ensure that an engaging feature of the limiting arm of the device is aligned with an engaging feature of the frame sub-assembly so that the device properly reengages upon closing of the sash after release. Also, operation of the release of the travel limiting arm is intuitive, requiring only pressing in on a latch button and sliding it upwardly to effect release.

  • Patent number: 10557295
Abstract: A self locating tie bar guide for use with a tie bar. The tie bar guide defines a passage into which the tie bar is received. A tie bar receiving portion is shiftable between an open orientation in which the tie bar can be inserted into the passage and a closed orientation in which the tie bar is held in the passage. A resilient engaging member that engages a prelocated opening in the tie bar is resiliently biased toward the tie bar when the receiving portion is in the open orientation. The resilient tie bar engaging member is shiftable away from the tie bar when the receiving portion is in the closed orientation by contact between a portion of the resilient engaging member and another portion of the tie bar guide.

  • Patent number: 10392839
Abstract: An apparatus has an actuator housing with a transmission side that defines a transmission slot. A slider is disposed in the actuator housing and has first and second ends which define a post receiver. The slider is movable between a first and second position. The post receiver is aligned with the slot when the slider is in the first position and the second position. A lever pivotably connected to the actuator housing is configured to move the slider from the first position to the second position. The transmission has an elongate element with a first and second end which is disposed outside the actuator housing and substantially parallel to and proximate the transmission side. A post extends from the first end and is received in the post receiver. A locking element is disposed proximate the second end of the first elongate element and is configured to receive the second end.
