    Abstract: An asynchronous SFQ logic cell that is amenable to being used in combinational logic circuits. Rather than encode each digital logic bit as one SFQ pulse, each logic bit is encoded as a series of SFQ pulses. As such, merge and join circuits can be used for elementary logic cells to form asynchronous combinational logic circuits in accordance with the present invention. Such circuits are relatively faster and denser as well as more compatible with existing synchronous SFQ logic circuits.

    Abstract: An error correction and detection technique provides a correction code for correcting single bit errors as well as detecting but not correcting two adjacent bits in error. A received word, which may contain errors, is multiplied by a parity check matrix to produce a syndrome corresponding to one of first and second mutually exclusive sets of syndromes if the received word contains at least one error, each single bit error in the received bit word corresponding one-to-one with a member of the first of the sets of syndromes and each two bit adjacent error corresponding non-uniquely to a member of the second of the sets of syndromes. A syndrome containing all zeros is produced if the received word contains no errors. One bit data errors in the received word are corrected, two bit errors are reported, and no action is taken if the word contains no errors.

The non-azide gas generating material when combusted produces inflation fluid which comprises carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). A catalyst system which contacts the inflation fluid is also in the inflator. The catalyst system is reactive with the carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the inflation fluid. The catalyst system comprises a zeolite and a catalytic material. The catalytic material is supported by the zeolite.

    Abstract: An optical inverting system employs a first optical structure having an index of refraction that varies with the intensity of an incident beam and a second optical structure having a constant index of refraction, and forming an interface therebetween. An optical pulse stream is combined with a laser beam and the combined beam is applied to the first optical structure, impinging the interface at a predetermined angle of incidence. If the angle of incidence is less than a critical angle, the beam is refracted into the second optical structure. If the angle of incidence is greater than the critical angle, the beam is completely reflected at the interface. Thus the output of the second optical structure is an inversion, and the output of the first optical structure is a level shifted replica, of the optical digital pulse stream.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for custom coding uplink signals and downlink beams in a satellite communications system. The method includes the step of applying, at a ground station (100), an outer code (102) to an uplink signal to produce an outer coded uplink signal. Next, the ground station (100) applies a selected reduced complexity inner code (104) to the outer coded uplink signal to produce a concatenated coded uplink signal. The ground station (100) transmits the concatenated coded uplink signal to a satellite (110). At the satellite (110), the inner code of the concatenated coded uplink signal is decoded (116) to produce an outer coded satellite data stream. Next, the satellite (110) applies a selected inner code (120) to a portion of the outer coded satellite data stream to produce a concatenated coded satellite data stream. The satellite (110) then transmits the concatenated coded satellite data stream in a downlink beam to a destination ground station (126).

    Abstract: Communication satellite downlink transmitting and reception techniques includes circuitry which groups a predetermined number of data cells with a predetermined error correction code to generate frame bodies. The circuitry also groups the frame bodies with header symbols and trailer symbols to generate data frames. One or more modulators enable the placement of the modulated data frames into a plurality of frequency bands having a predetermined frequency range and a predetermined transmission rate. One or more antennas transmit the modulated data frames over one or more beams with different forms of polarization to other antennas. A demodulator is connected to demodulate the radio carrier signals and the beams into data frames from a plurality of frequency bands. Decoders are connected to decode the frame bodies with header symbols and with trailer symbols from the data frames and to decode four data cells as a group by using a predetermined error correction code.

Each fiber in the multi-mode fiber array includes a multimode core and an outer cladding layer. The inner cladding layer and the core are the same material and the outer cladding layers are the same material. The dual-clad fiber array is a fiber ribbon wound on a bobbin. The multi-mode pump fiber array is a fiber ribbon that is wrapped around the outside of the dual-clad fiber ribbon on the bobbin. A doped silica frit is placed between the fiber ribbons, where the dopant makes the frit have an index of refraction greater than the index of refraction of the outer layers.
