  • Patent number: 7503890
Abstract: A collapsible patient isolation pod for preventing flow of contaminants to or from a patient is disclosed. The isolation pod is preferably fabricated at least partially from a transparent, biochemically resistive material and includes a flexible enclosure that is configurable to receive a contaminated patient therein. The top is maintained spaced apart from the bottom such that the top is maintained out of physical contact with a contaminated patient received in the enclosure. The isolation pod has a plurality of wide, gloved access points to allow easy, multiple access points to a patient. A central connection manifold for oxygen, intravenous connections, or other fluids, may optionally be provided. Ventilation is provided within the isolation chamber with a negative pressure ventilation system and filtration on the air input near the patient's head, and provides filtration on output near the patient's feet.

  • Patent number: 7458390
Abstract: The present invention relates to a breath controlled air inlet valve for controlling a flow of air supplied to a wearer of a facemask, the valve permitting the flow of air when a wearer breathes in and restricting the flow of air when the wearer breathes out. The valve includes an inlet, an outlet, one or more pivotable shutters, and a shutter articulating mechanism for articulating the one or more shutters between an open state and a closed state. The shutter articulation mechanism actuates in response to the respiration of the wearer. The valve also enables a positive pressure to be maintained within the facemask by permitting an amount of air to flow around the one or more shutters when the one or more shutters are in the closed state.

  • Publication number: 20080215277
Abstract: An assembly line for manufacturing filter canisters is disclosed. The method for assembling filter canisters provides a unique serial number for each canister and a database that associates the component lot numbers, activated charcoal weight, and quality assurance test results with the serial number for the filter canister. The manufacturing method can be adapted for assembly of canisters with activated charcoal and an aerosol HEPA filter, canisters with activated charcoal only, and canisters with an aerosol HEPA filter only. Some embodiments can also enable different testing conditions and specifications, activated charcoal loading requirements, labeling specifications, and packaging requirements.

  • Publication number: 20080196723
Abstract: A system for regulating the airflow to a closed environment using feedback control for the position of a control valve and blower speed. The system provides a control apparatus that regulates airflow to a closed environment, such as the mask of a breathing apparatus, to ensure sufficient breathing air for a wearer of such mask. In order to provide fast response to a change in condition in the breathable environment, the airflow regulator includes a valve control and a blower control.

  • Patent number: 7273052
Abstract: A pneumatic sealing system for a gas mask, which seals the mask to the face of the user by using a pump that employs air from inside the gas mask to variably inflate a mask seal during the breathing cycle. A double diaphragm pump, which has a driving diaphragm and a driven diaphragm, is connected to the inflatable mask seal via a hose duct. The double diaphragm pump is driven by the pressure difference inside the gas mask. During inhalation, the driving diaphragm fills with ambient air and the driven diaphragm fills with filtered air. During exhalation, the driving diaphragm and the driven diaphragm compress, releasing and trapping air in the mask seal.

  • Patent number: 7198079
Abstract: A gas mask liquid delivery system including a gas mask having a liquid inlet port. A liquid control adapter having a body with a first end with an outlet opening formed therein, a second end with an inlet opening formed therein, and an interior chamber formed within the body. An inlet chamber extends from the inlet opening to the interior chamber and an outlet chamber extends from the outlet opening to the interior chamber. The inlet and outlet openings, inlet, interior, and outlet chambers, define a flow path when placed in open communication with each other to permit liquid to flow through the flow path. A stopper controls the flow of the liquid through the flow path. The outlet opening connects the adapter to the liquid inlet port. A flow tube connects a liquid source to a connector, wherein the inlet opening of the adapter is connected to the connector.

  • Patent number: 7101412
Abstract: A self-sealing protection filter port for gas masks prevents contamination of the inner-environment of the mask during exchange of filters and therefore increases safety. A biased valve closes the air inlet to the port when the protection filter is not installed. As a new filter is inserted, the valve is forced open, allowing filtered air to flow through the air inlet to the user. The protection filter engages the filter port using a retaining element. The self-sealing protection filter in a protection mask having an internal close-biased valve is installed in the standard protection filter port of the mask.
