Abstract: An assembly for sealingly enclosing a space into which one or more optical fibres and/or optical cables is or are fed includes a container defining the space and a sealing member. The container has an opening therein. The sealing member sealingly encloses the one or more optical fibres and/or optical cables positionable distinctly and separately from the container. The sealing member: (a) can be placed in the opening so that the one or more optical fibres and/or optical cables extend through the opening into the container, and (b) can be heat and/or pressure sealed to the container to seal the opening around the one or more optical fibres and/or optical cables.

Abstract: A device for enclosing an elongate object (20), such as a cable splice, including a flexible sheet (2) which can be laid around the elongate object and secured by support members (5, 6) attached to edges (3, 4) of the sheet. The support members (5, 6) may be hinged half-shells. The flexible sheet (2) may be a gel layer and/or a rubber layer which is stretched when the device is applied.

Abstract: A termination device (1) for cables (20) having at least one flexible strength member (21) comprises a retention member (3) for retaining the strength member and a base member (2) for accommodating the retention member (3). The base member (2) is provided with clamping means (11, 12) which prevent any longitudinal movement of the retention member (3). In addition, the clamping means (11, 12) exert pressure on the retention member accommodated in the base member so as to be able to clamp the strength member (21) between the clamping means and at least one surface (7) of the retention member.

Abstract: Detent devices for optical fibre members have an outer casing member with a tapered aperture in which an inner engagement member is slidably fitted. A strength member of the optical fibre member received in the inner engagement member can be wrapped back around a boss of the inner engagement member and is clamped by the slidable engagement member when the optical fibre member is pulled. Thus axial strain relief is provided.

Abstract: A support for a splice in an elongate element such as an optical fiber in which application of the support involves attainment of an elevated temperature, in which there are provided temperature indicator means for providing a visual indication of attainment of a selected temperature or temperature range whereby to assist in determining effective completion of a step in the application process.

Abstract: Cable closures and methods are provided for enclosing a cable. The cable closure includes two half shells together forming an enclosed space for housing a cable, and a sealing strip positioned between peripheral regions of the half shells, at least one of the shells having a removable portion to provide a cable entry port. A cable sealing device may be positioned at the cable entry port such that a seal is provided between the sealing strip and each half shell and a cable entering through the port.

Abstract: A sealing arrangement is provided including a first housing and a second housing and a sealing member positioned therebetween. In various embodiments, one housing includes a channel shaped portion and the other housing includes a tongue shaped portion movable in an axial direction into the channel shaped portion to compress the sealing member therebetween in a transverse direction relative to the axial direction. In further embodiments, both housings include a channel shaped portion and the sealing member extends into each channel shaped portion and is compressed within each channel shaped portion in a transverse direction.

A body is provided having a plurality of axially extending radially projecting ribs defining, between circumferentially adjacent pairs thereof, locations for receiving one or more of the elongate articles. The body includes longitudinally adjacent parts of resilient material and sealant material.

Abstract: A closure is provided including a casing part having at least one opening configured to receive an elongate object within the casing part. A sealing chamber defined by the casing part is positioned adjacent the opening so as to receive the elongate object in the sealing chamber and a sealant material is positioned in the sealing chamber. A relatively displaceable wall part of the casing part in provided in various embodiments which communicatively contacts the sealant material and is coupled to another part of the casing part by a flexible hinge part so as to allow movement of the relatively displaceable wall part relative to the other part of the casing. A compression means may be provided for applying a compressive force to the sealant material through the relatively displaceable wall part.
