Publication number: 20060065027Abstract: A digital keypad coded entry electronic lock is provided for operating an electronically operated door bolt locking mechanism within a closure or safe. The digital input handle is provided in two parts, with an upper head part positioning the keypad away from a depending handle part. Insertion and removal of an electronic storage battery is facilitated by providing an open rear portion of the handle through which the battery can be inserted or removed without the need for screws, pins or tools.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2004Publication date: March 30, 2006Applicant: U-Code, Inc.Inventor: Mark Valentine

Patent number: 6786519Abstract: The locking bolt of a swing bolt lock has an elongated opening that fits on a shaft in the lock's housing. The shaft has a compression spring that biases the bolt toward one side of the shaft. In normal operation, the compression spring urges the bolt such that the shaft is at one end of the elongated opening. There, the swing bolt pivots about the shaft to unlock the lock. When a person tries to force the lock, the elongated opening of the bolt moves against spring bias along the shaft. In one embodiment, flat surfaces in the opening and on the shaft engage each other and a notch on the outside surface of the bolt engages a stationary safety key. This prevents the bolt from applying sufficient force to break weaker parts within the lock mechanism and force the lock open.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2002Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: U-Code, Inc.Inventor: Klaus W. Patent number: 6760964Abstract: The key pad assembly includes a housing that attaches to a secure container. The housing has a front wall, and a key pad attaches to the front face of the front wall. A cylindrical side wall extends back from the front wall. The side wall is truncated at an angle to angle the front face to the door. Where the side wall is widest, which should be at the bottom of the housing, the side wall has a removable section through which a battery can be inserted. A cable extends through an opening in the front face from the key pad to a circuit board that mounts the combination sensing circuit. The cable is flat with multiple electric conductors and a slot. When the key pad and circuit board are properly assembled, the cable slot fits over a fixed pin in the housing. The pin secures the cable so that it is not pulled from its connection with the key pad or the circuit board. Other pins within the housing mount the circuit board. Parallel walls from the rear of the front face create a cavity for the battery.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2000Date of Patent: July 13, 2004Assignee: U-Code, Inc.Inventor: Klaus W. Gartner

Patent number: 6298699Abstract: An electronic combination lock having a dial-shape handle with a keypad incorporated therein is disclosed. Rotation of the handle extends or retracts a bolt that closes or opens the lock. The keypad includes indicia that give the user visual cues as to the orientation of the handle, thereby informing the user of the extended or retracted condition of the bolt. A battery pack is used to energize circuitry that recognizes a code entered through the keypad. The circuitry provides a control signal that activates a solenoid to extend or retract a bolt blocking device, which in turn prevents or enables movement of the bolt. A visual indicator warns of a low voltage or power condition in the battery pack. Electrical contacts are provided in the face plate of the handle to connect the circuitry to an external power source in case the battery pack fails.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2000Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: U-Code, Inc.Inventors: Klaus W. Gartner, Dieter Butterweck, Peter J. Phillips

Patent number: 5887467Abstract: An apparatus for an electronic lock having a movable bolt including a spring biased pawl movable when it is released by a solenoid mechanism for relative movement by the bolt as the bolt is moved from a blocked entrance way position to an unblocked entranceway position.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1997Date of Patent: March 30, 1999Assignee: U-Code, Inc.Inventors: Dieter Butterweck, Peter J. Patent number: 5845523Abstract: An electronic combination lock having a dial-shape handle with a keypad incorporated therein is disclosed. Rotation of the handle extends or retracts a bolt that closes or opens the lock. In one embodiment, a gear rotated by the shaft displaces the rack end of radially-extending bolts that extend or retract. The keypad includes indicia that inform the user of the extended or retracted condition of the bolt. A battery pack is used to energize circuitry, and the circuitry provides a control signal that activates a solenoid to extend or retract a bolt blocking device, which in turn prevents or enables movement of the bolt. A visual indicator warns of a low voltage or power condition in the battery pack. Electrical contacts are provided in the face plate of the handle to connect the circuitry to an external power source in case the battery pack fails.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1996Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: U-Code, Inc.Inventors: Dieter Butterweck, Peter J.
